I have a 2000 dodge durango which just turned 99,000 miles and the check engine light has came on. It seems when the durango sits for a while the light will go off. Any suggestions?

When my check engine light came on, I took it to Auto Zone. They will plug into the OBD port and read the trouble codes stored in the computer. They do it for free. My problem was the front speed sensor. They sold me a new one for about $12 and I installed it in about 5 minutes. I disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes to reset the computer and off I went. Yours is probably an intermittent event that goes back to normal after it cools off or sits for a while, but once you start operating it shows up again and the computer tells you about it. Best way to find out the problem or cause is how I have suggested above, it's easy and it's free.

Check The P Code on The Durango by turning your key on and off 3 times and seeing what code is read in the Milage reader. The P code will state what the problem is with the computer. Then go from there by researching it online and going after the source! ;)

Good luck, keep us updated!
