NA Supra

So ive recently come across a CLEAN low mileage supra that i can actually afford and still have plenty left over for mods.

But there are two problems.... A it is NA, B it is Automatic..... so recently researching i found out a fact that was new to me.... the NA engine is slightly different then the TT engine?? I had no idea, i thought they were exactly the same except for the actual Turbos themselves.

Well ive looked around a bit and couldnt find a thread... but i want to know if this is even worth purchasing? I mean i can deal w. keeping it automatic for a while till i get enough cash to convert it. But i really do want to turbo it.

I havent seen many kits that say they are specifically for the NA supra except for the one on Turbo-Kits.com.

Any suggestions? or another thread you recall you can point me to?

Any help would be great. Maybe i should just keep searching for a stock TT one??

and keep searching for a manual if ur planning on doing a conversion

its rarely ever worth modifying a car to do something that a factory version offers

To tell you the truth, if you want speed and all out power, look for a good TT, The NA/T's are nice too but they really can't compare to what a TT supra can do. Ethier route you decide to go on, I might be able to help you out with looking for parts and prices, PM me or let me know if you need any help. And no I'm not a dealer, just a guy who likes working and building supras.

I see a few options here. 1. You can call around and price out the cost of swapping in a turbo engine with manual tranny. If the price is that low on the car you are looking at it might be affordable. 2. Keep looking.

Thanks for the help guys, Ive done my research and realized that it will be more affordable to just look for a Supra TT. Before i do this i have to sell my current car, once i sell it i have some friends taht own dealerships and go to the auction, they say older model cars (before 98 or 99) are really hard to find in the auctions but a supra does come through every once in a while. So hopefully within a few months i will have a nice shiney Supra TT....

Another question, why is it that when most people mod the supra they get a single turbo kit? Wouldnt it be better to upgrade to a larger twin turbo kit? I would think it would reduce turbo lag. Ive never owned a turbo car so im not 100% sure about all this, just know what ive been researching about turbos in general for the past year or so.

BTW, can you up the PSI on the stock TT? and how much pressure/HP can that engine handle? I'm seeing these kits claiming 750whp without an engine build.

yes you can up the boost on stock turbos and yes it will hold for a while. My mkiv at the time when the stocks were on there dynoed at 358HP on 18pis. The factory setting is 12psi but by intake, downpipe, and exhaust will automaticly up the boost on any turbo car just about because of better airflow. And yes, there are turbo kits around that can go as high as 1200HP it just depends on the supporting parts you have such as a transmission, fuel injectors, etc. But be warned, when your dealing with raising the boost on a mkiv supra, it is a matter of time before the stock tranny blows, or the turbo blows, so don't get too happy with your boost controller. Whats up guys. I'm new to this forum but I think I'll throw my 2 cents in.
It all depends on how much HP you want. You can buy a supra na ($10,000) and convert it into a turbo for about $6,000 and have about 400rwhp. Or you can buy a TT, ($18,000 to $20,000) and have a stock car that will push about 260rwhp. Now the the TT can go futher with horsepower, but who wants to have a 1200hp to 1300hp car that you wont drive except on the track. My opinion is buy the NA and convert it. Its alot cheaper and more power.
