I was planning on entering the Gumball next year (2005) as it goes through Europe (again) but at £5000 per person ($9500) its a little too rich for my blood, plus all the speeding tickets on top of that I just couldnt justify the expendititure, but I`d love to take part as its been a dream of mine for a while now. Its only 5 days, and its not a race....its a rally!

How much do you get if you win?

You get a Gumball machine, and the pleasure of knowing that you won. There are other prizes along those lines but its done for the thrill of the race.

Lol, its the GumBall3000...I think it should be 3000 Miles...could check me on that. Heres a hint though...Why are the cars stickered up so much? Because some companies know what it is and will pay your pay if you put their sticker really big on your car. So you may end up only paying 2 or 3K...just whatever...But thats why alot of the cars have like PlayBoy, DKNY Jeans, Hotwheels, KRUZE, and many others. Some also sponsor the event in the states anyway and people put the stickers on there. Have fun getting sponsors if your a street car though...as you can tell, MOST cars arent just any kind of car. Speeding tickets, entry, gas arent the only fees either....look at how torn up some of the cars become from travelling such high speeds for long distances close behind other speeding cars. It also looks to me that not all the places they stop and go at are "sports car friendly" - referring to the way parking lots and so on are set up. Also think about people hearing about the race also comes vandalism while you rest and also just the risks of street racing or rallying for 3000miles...most people rave about stupidity of speeding for 1350feet. I'd suggest just heading to just outside a major city they plan to travel and cruise along with them for a few hundred miles before turning around and going back home. Nonetheless, definately would be an awesome race to be in...despite it all, I wouldn't pass it up!

if i had the money i would enter it even though i know they guy in the enzo ferrari would win. but its still fun.... another question what car would you do the gumball in and why, the cheapest car ive ever seen in the gumball have had to been johnny knoxville's jaguar(89 jag with 90000 miles on it.worth $10000) and the dodge caravan steve-o took and the most expensive was the enzo ferrari.

I`d do it in my car, having just spent $10000 to enter I`d also have to eat, sleep and live in my car after selling everything else I own to fund it.
But seriously you can run it in whatever you can, last year saw a VW beetle, an old Mini etc. Even if I could afford to fund it without selling everything I own I`d still use my GT4.

It would be a sweet race to go into but $10000 to race? ill get together a bunch of my friends and just say "OK lets go all around the us and end up here. ok? ok, GO!" :) btw there was a show on MTV like that. I think it was like True Life : I am a rally racer. It was pretty cool to watch it. I have also wanted to put one of those races together.

There's a much better, cheaper, funner "race" known as the "Double 500" you buy a car for $500 or less, and then attempt to race 500Km in it. It was actually created by somebody involved in the rediculously overpriced rallies like the California Mille and gumball 3000, because he wanted a rally where people could actually afford to have fun.
Needless to says cars like Fiats, Ford Pintos, and Renault Le Cars are common, and driven until (sometimes) they don't run anymore.
My friend and I are thinking about entering his '83 VW GTI for next years event.

Very true. And anyways, the Enzo can go fast but for how long? Its the Porsches, BMW M5's, and Mercedes that win.

the thing is the guy with the enzo was in last year's run and the guy is an ex- f-1 driver but im still guessing the dude has horrid gas mileage

Which former F1 driver? And it's not so much the gas mileage (most cars that go 200mph get shitty mileage) it's the reliability.

Well the fact of the matter is that it doesn't matter...if you guys go rent mischief 3000 at your local blockbuster, you will realize that this whole thing is about having fun and comradary...not about who wins. If it were a serious race, they wouldn't be laughing about getting drunk and partying all night, or about who got arrested the most that day. They are all just in it to have fun and drive fast.
