ABS Light, Traction Control Disabled and no 1st gear in 95 Deville Concours

a few days ago on my 1995 Deville Concours I suddenly got an ABS light, the traction disabled warning, and the car began to be very sluggish when starting from a stop. It didn't take long to find that even when manually attempting to shift into 1st gear it refused to do. I assumed I had a hard fail and was about to run off to the mechanic when the warning lights went out and everything worked well, even the transmission. That lasted several hours around town and then it failed again. Does anyone have any ideas what could intermittently cause all of this??

My best guess would be a great amount of moisture like rain or snow. Has there been exessive or unusual moisture where you are?

I am in Arizona. Moisture? What is that?

I seem to be having the same problem, but it does seem to be caused by moisture. Do you have any updates on what's causing this?

:mad:Sorry, no updates. Only that quite a few Cadillac owners I'v talked to seem to be having the same exact isssues. I sure was hoping that one of these expert mechanics would have a cure for me but none as yet.

What do you mean manually attempting to go into 1st gear? When it happens to me, I get a abs, traction control lights, and a service stability sys message. I don't feel any difference in acceleration though, and I can feel that it shifts to second from first. This happens when I hit a hard bump and turns off when the car is restarted. Are you having the same problem? My deville is the newer 00 model, so maybe it's not the same.

David, I have a 95 Concours that I have had the same problem for quite a while. The Traction Disabled message will show up followed by Service Engine Soon. This shows up as "Loss of PCM Data" on diagnostics. From what I can gather, the data cable between the Traction Control Module (TCM) located in the left front of the engine compartment and the PCM is loose or corroded. I wish I could say I had fixed mine, but laziness has overtaken me. The problem is usually fixed by turning off the ignition and restarting the engine. Hope this helps.

on 2000 model you should try to see if you get any codes most likely
it will set a code in the chasis menu.
most common failure i have seen is the steering position sensor
but it could be something else so try to get it scanned first.

on 95 model get it scanned for chasis code in most cases if the abs
moudle loses any wheel speed sensor or if it detekts a prob in the circuit
including the bmpv valve it will turn on traction and abs lamp.
since its intermitted look at wheel speed sens connector at the wheels for corotion at the terminals.
