I don't know about a museum, but a portion of MTC is comitted to McLaren history. Among those permanant displays is "Le Mans" section. Follow this link for the article on the Grand Opening as well as some pics...

http://www.mclaren.com/features/2004/heritage.htm

The Le Mans event is represented by the F1 GTR which was the winner of the GT1 category in the 1997 race and finished second overall. In addition, FL LM, the prototype for the special edition car built to celebrate the team’s victory in the 1995 event is also on display. This car set a record in 1999 for travelling from 0-100-0mph in an incredible 11.5 seconds.

Finally, XP5, the McLaren F1 which holds the world record for the fastest production road car completes the display.

Be sure to check out the video, too...

There has been no official announcement made by McLaren that any of the new McLaren Technology Center is open to the public yet. I would make certain that you can get access, either by calling or writing to them prior to venturing over there. Apparently you can't even see the buildings from the road and it sounds like there's no way to get close to it without trespassing.

it may not be open yet but there are photos of the cars lined up in what is called a visitor center so i hope it will be open to the public soon, if not then why move xp5 from park lane to the new site?

As i know, the first qualification to be able to visit mclaren NTC until now, you should be member of Mclaren and then, you can move on next step. I think which means inside of new technology center is not organized well. so only the minority who are members can access into Mclaren. The public may be able to drop by NTC in the close future surely because they have already made the space for the public from initial building but not yet.

Thats a shame i would really have liked to go there. By being a member do you meen the £63 a year charge on the mclaren website?

Yes, including that. If you became the member through that way, the opportunity will be given for visit or something. and then send message to Mclaren. Even though you are member, i doubt whether to allow visit only for one person as individual. If you think that money is a little big or not worth to pay for visit, i don't want to suggest.

You are referring to Shin Okamoto's collection. We have discussed it before and there is one small photo of the corner of that car which was found on the internet. Do you live in Japan? Do you have any other photographs of the car? We would love to see more if you have some. If you know anything else about the museum in Japan, please share.

heh, sorry but no i don't have any more info. just been to tokyo before and seen the photo floating around. i did not see the mclaren when i was in japan.

actually, let me clarify that i don't know if its a museum or just a collection that is not open to the public. this brings up an interesting question tho, are there any f1s on public display besides the bmw one and the lm and maroon xp in japan? possibly the white one also.

i know the bruneii f1s and other exotics are sealed off except for when they trickle out for a quick sale. and now the london showroom is gone.

i am not talking about showrooms or car events where private owners display them for a short time. but a permanent display open to the public.

Welcome to come here.
Is the white one displayed in museum in japan? interesting..
And you said " if you ae buying a mercedes slr you cannot get in right now" but this is not ture because in fifth gear program showing slr and new technology center, Tiff say " As customer, you welcome to go to see your slr being hand-built by Mclaren technician more must be world basket production line." and if somebody were to be a member by buying that package, thre are possibility to get in NTC depends on cases, which is heard from reliable source.
