no spark

i have a 92 regal 3.8l. i was sitting at a stoplight and it just died it has fuel press. but no spark. the check engine light was on. i was thinking crank sensor or ign module, but im not sure. car showed no signs of any problem ran ok. i dont know

Check for codes. But sounds like you are on the right track.

I have a 1990 buick Regal 3.1 and it just stopped on the road. Had it towed back to my house to start work on it. No check engine light and no trouble codes were showing or stored.
Hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail which indicated fuel pressure. Next I checked the plugs but none of the six plugs had any spark during cranking. One part I suspected was the ignition module so I took it off after Autozone stated they could check it. When I got there they then said could not check this particular module. So I went and bought a new module anyway since the car has 150900 miles on it. I installed it and the car ran great for 5 min and then just died again with no spark but plenty of fuel pressure. Next thing I checked was the crankshaft position sensor.
I disconnected the 3-way connector on right side of of module as you face the car. Probed the only two terminals with an Ohmmeter and should have gotten a reading between 900-1200 ohms. I got zilch so it
ended up being the crankshaft sensor. The sensor is very hard to get to
which is located behind the engine above the oil pan. Had to crawl under car to get to it but was reachable. The old sensor was very brittle and broke very easy. I actually pryed it out with a slim jim between the sensor and the block. Had to rotated sensor while prying sideways with the slim jim. The car runs great now.
