'00 Grand Prix Heater Core Replacement

I encountered a recent problem with the heater core in my 00 Grand Prix GT. It developed a leak which I confirmed by bypassing the core and the leak disappeared. Now I am faced with replacement. I am a hard core DIY person but after some disassembly, I am baffled.

If anyone has performed this change yourself, how did you get it out? Throught the driver floorboard or did you have to remove the entire dash? I don't have a service manual but need one.

If someone has had it done by a mechanic - dealer or otherwise, how much can I expect to pay for the work?

Any help will be appreciated.

How did you find out that you need to replace your heater core?

I have a Haynes manual and it shows the procedure to remove the heater core. I would buy one just for reference. You will need to remove the lower dash including the console. Then the majority of the lower duct work. Once you get everything apart the replacement is not difficult. If you are a hardcore diy'er you can do it with no problem. A dealer will charge you several hundred to change it out including the parts.

Where did you find the Haynes manual? I can't seem to find one anywhere.

I bought mine at Autozone! If you can't find one there try amazon.com. Chiltons is just as good in my opinion.

Give this a shoot. Should show you everything you need to do.
