Aux. coolant pump

I have a later model 2000 Montana and my brother a early model 2000,both with rear A/C and heat. My van has a aux. coolant pump by the air cleaner and his van does not.I am assuming this is for the rear heat,but then why would his not have this pump,or is it just in a different place?
