97 blazer ZR2-You guys must be getting sick of these front end posts but I just cant figure it out. It started with the clunking over bumps that I can hear/feel under the driverside floor pan. So far I have replaced the following:
hood hinge washers
sway bay assemblies
idler arm
left axle seal & cv boot replaced (mechanic said all else looked in order)
torsion bar crossmember brackets-which I cant uderstand why the crossmember is still sitting up against the right frame rail. Help. I am looking at replacing the struts next (still original), can they cause the clunking?? I grabbed the left front wheel and shook the crap out it, left, right, up, down, feels solid. I am totaly stumped. Please, any advise would be great, I dont want to have to pay someone hundreds of dollars just to tear it down and look through it.

just to add, my door hinges are shot. can this be a possibility for the clunking??

This might make you happy. Piley posted it a few weeks back. If the frame member for the torsion bars is making contact with the frame rails and you can see the marks, this will likely correct your problem. My dealer said they couldn't find a problem until I gave them this. They had never heard of it before and it does not appear in their TSB database.

Did you check your hood for it rattling?

I already put in those hood washers from the GM parts counter. I also put some heavy duty washers between the corssmember bracket and the right frame rail. It did help center the crossmember. I took it for a quick spin and did'nt hear anything. I hope that was it. I'll have to take it on a longer drive and hit some bad roads to see how well it worked. Thanks for all the info.

OK, I'm an idiot. No laughing. I finally got the crossmember centered, new bushings and everything else. I decided to lift the hood and noticed my after market air filter sysem had come loose and was knocking against the wheel well. :screwy: My bad. Well I took her out, un-even roads, manhole covers, ect. No more noise!! My blazer is perfect again. thanks for all the input.

Awesome, glad to hear it.

It is the little things thta we all tend to miss seeing we always think something big has worn out.

You are human, hell, at least you didn't replace your whole front end because you didn't check the hood washers like I did.

Damn that sucked.
