i got a 1990 240sx SOHC its got a blown head gasket, i want to just swap the eginge but i wanna get something a little better. . any ideas on good motors? would the DOHC that came in the later models match up without haveing to switch motor mounts and switching out the trany?

You will need a 1991-1994 gauge cluster, power steering lines and pump and I'm not sure what else.

The motor in it now is the KA24E 2.4L SOHC i was thinking about going with the SR20DET 2.0L DOHC VVT i dont know if that would work though if it would how tough would it be? no im not 16 or 18 very close though im 17

It's not that great, it's got 250,000kms, 3 speed automatic, 84 crank horsepower, 13" steel wheels, a pionneer headunit (woohoo!!...it's a cheap one). Oh wait, did I forget to mention that it's a 1991 topaz and not that yellow S14?

(I didn't capitalize "topaz" because it doesn't deserve it.)

well you said u didnt want to have to switch out the tranny so nobody threw out the idea of a sr20 if you get a sr20 you will have to replace everything basically its fairly easy to do if you know what ur doing but werent you earlier talking about the DOCH that came in later models which would be the ka24de right now you have the ka24e

you only like the ka because you don't have an sr. i used to love my ka too, until i got an sr. its completely different (for the better).

ca is also a very good engine, and great for road racing and autox.

all you have to do to get an sr to pass emissions is not to ever take it to emissions. just register it out of county. go to a county that does not have emissions, get a po box for mailing address, make up a street address and you're all set. they'll hand you your plates same day.

all the ka is good for is blowing up.

I guess you think everyone is from Cali. I am from a state that doesnt care what type of engine you run. Check with the local laws before you do a swap, dont just assume that it will be illegal. And if you are from Cali, it seems that there are shops that will pass an SR20det, they pass the chemical test, just not a visual. Benn to a drift event lately? Last one I went to in Cali you could have had a car show in the parking lot, plenty of swapped 240's with the Cali plates to match.

If you are going through the hassle of swapping the motor, you might as well get an sr or ca. You can get them pretty reasonably and theres quite a bit of support out there. Yeah, you could turbo a KA, but you will have to buy a turbo kit which will probably cost more than buying a sr or ca which already has the turbo and is easy to hop up. The CA is a little cheaper, and revs higher which is good for drifting. The SR has more power out of the box and would probably be your best bet.
I'm still waiting to finish college so I can get an s13 and soup the hell out of it. ---Next Year---

I'm looking into swapping an sr20det into an s14. Where are some good dealers to get the engine from? I'm ideally looking for a place to sell me everything i need, engine, transmission, ecu, etc. If you know some sites email me at [email protected].

Well maybe i live in a shitty place then..I checked my state (washington) and my dads where he lives to see if he could get it smogged (oregon) and both do visual inspections! it wont pass visual garantee'd. I have numerous emails with the DEQ inspecter and he said that none of the stations will let the engines pass a visual inspection. Maybe you could pay the guy off but i would rather have an legel ka and turbo that and save hassle.

price difference between the sr and ka-t makes them financially interchangeable.. you can piece together a ka-t kit for less than the cost of the average sr.. downfall is that it won't have the same output.. if you take the price of the average sr and spend it on a turbo kit for the ka, you can make more or less hp and tq but there are too many variables involved.. and support for sr versus the ka?? i have to disagree.. more shops will know what to do with a ka24de-t with trouble than an sr20det with trouble.. as for the ca? i don't know enough about it, no comment

yup.... i got a ka for now but i'd definitely love the sr if i had one.

emissions would be a bitch... are there easier ways to bypass the emissions test....that's one of the biggest reason why i won't really try for a sr.

also ka-t is pretty good but my ka has 180k on it... it would be stupid to try and force induction that shiet now... (still runs strong tho)
