Backfiring problem

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with the 93 vr4. A few cars tried to mess with me last night. One was a Cavalier with a big muffler, he kept trying to go by me and I held him off three times without shifting out of 5th :smokin: . Anyway, the 4th time, I let him get a nose ahead, went into 3rd, gave him two honks, and went on my merry way with his headlights becoming very dim. It was fun. However, when I downshifted and hit it, there was a slight hesitation with a noise (really sounded like backfiring), and then it kicked in. I tried it a few more times, and each time I downshift and hit it, it hesitates and apparently backfires. Any thoughts? I have to be running good for when I finally meet up with that loser in the V6 stang.

whats your specs? you running stock or do you have an open bov? have you played with the boost? you may be slightly over boosting by a fraction?

Unfortunately, it's a bone stock '93 for now. I was hoping to get an MBC soon though. This doesn't appear to help things.

what milage you on? reason im asking as it could be a ht lead or spark plugs breaking down under load.

when was the last time the plugs were changed?

could also be your o2 sensor playing up under load.

could be a few things... like he said yeah check the spark plugs they could be fouling out... even the plug wires...
when it "backfires" does it shoot out alot of black smoke if so the your running rich or the plugs are fouling out or wires gone bad.
now its its white or no smoke then its detinating and running lean (which its very bad for the car VERY BAD and you might end up with holes in the cylenders (happend to a freind)) if thats the case go get a Wideban o2 sensor and a S-AFC. and i sujest if you do that take it to a tunning shop and have them do it on thier dyno. unless you know how to do it properly.

Both the plugs and wires are new. I'll check for smoke, and most likely end up taking it to the shop.

If you have trouble with a v6 Stang in a VR4 you need to quit driving.;) Even running bad you would crush a v6 Stang.:)
