89 cavalier heater Problem

ok i have a 89 cavalier
with the 2.2 4cyl engine

i have replaced the heater core [old one was still good]

replaced thermastat [again old was still good]

ive checked to make sure all controls were working properly and they seem to be...

but the problem still remains im getting no heat just cold air

ive checked heater core hoses and yes the return hose is cold but the feed hose isnt exactly the warmest either

ive noticed behind the thermastat housing there is a vacum controled device where the hose to the heater core runs from...

i have tried unhooking hoses to make sure the new core core wasnt clogged or the hoses werent pinched and they werent nor was the core clogged

So any help on this would be greatly appreciated..

The vacuum controled device is the EGR Valve. Nothing to do with heat. Sounds like the thermostat is in backwards. You could also have a stuck baffle door inside the dash.

well thermastat isnt backwards the design of it wouldnt let it be possable

as i said tho all my controls work the doors the ac works fine etc..
as i said tho one hose is hotter then other so thats whats confusing me i guess my only next step would be replace heater core hoses..

after that ive replaced everything
could there be a clog in the head/ intake were the return hose runs??

Yes, could be an obstruction in the cooling lines. The hose behind the power steering pump is a bear to change. You may want to remove them both and try a flush.

The controls may work fine but the baffle can, and usually is stuck on a 15 year old car. This can often be fixed with some WD-40 or silicone/teflon spray.
