Alright, this has just recently started to happen, and everytime that I put on the gas, at about 3000 RPM'S i get this really high pitched noise and it continues on. The only way that there isnt that high pitched noise is if its below 3000 rpm's. and it's on every gear, so the problem im thinking is maybe a timing belt..?

you know what i had that exact same noise its like a high screetching noise right? anyways it went away after a while, but now it seems to be coming back. when stopped and i quickly accelrate it screetches very shortly about 1 sec and goes away. what is this dang problem?

I have no clue what the problem is, but like mine doesnt seem to go away at all. it just stays there and is annoying as all hell... and kinda embarrassing at some times.

yeah i bet its embarassing its even embarassing for me when im driving and my car it makes this clicking noise. i know its either the timing belt or the serpentine belt hoping the serpentine belt. i have this nice car but sounds like crap annoying!!!

I have this problem on my car too. I think I don`t know for a fact but I believe it is loosing compression. So I ordered new piston rings for my car and should be getting them installed this week. If you rev your car up does smoke come out of your car? On mine it does which has led me to believing it`s loosing compresion with the combination of the high screetching sound of air leaking out.

yeah, and hopefully soon im getting rid of the ticking by going out and buying new lifters. I also heard that cleaning the lifters really good works too.. but i dunno. Might just go with new ones.

so you think that clicking noise under the hood could be a lifter tick? how much will that cost you? also my car does smoke when i rev it up cold then goes away after a short while.

Yeah I think it might be loosing compression then because after it has warmed up it will seal the pistons better because when the pistons get hot they expand.

they sell the 99 lifters for $300 on ebay...elsewhere much more. And yes the tick tick tick you hear is the lifters, and they arent damaged, they're clogged from what i've been told so they aren't hurting anything but your ears.
Did you do a compression test 3000-GTO before you ordered piston rings?

Uhh, I think the schreeching noise could be the timing belt, my dad had the same problem with his car, and had to end up replacing the belt (but he has a 95 dodge ram van...)

ok so its definately lifter tick then dang it. ok what is the part called to fix this problem so i can look it up on ebay? also i dont want to get my timing belt changed since i am selling it. is there anyway to temporarily get rid of that screetching till after i sell it?

No I actully probably should have gotten my compression checked out first but I think that's what it is anyway. I just had my timing belt replaced so I know it's not that.

osok_deadeye_21--> Lifter tick will cost the price of lifters + installation (but you can always install them yourself!) Check the FAQ, i've posted an addendum to Lifter Tick, and there are 4 places i've found that you can get lifters for under $400. I also have found installation instructions, so i'll post them soon on the FAQ section. The dealer quoted me a price of $51.99 per lifter, which would come out to around $1200 for a set of 24. Also, expect to be charged a labor rate of $70 an hour!
Technical_Automan--> i'd be wary of getting internal engine parts off e-bay, unless you have some sort of gaurantee or assurance of product quality. In the FAQ i've posted the names/numbers of businesses that sell 3rd gen lifters. The main thing i would be worried with is whether or not the lifters are USED, REFURBISHED, or in the best case NEW. Keep in mind they are an internal engine part, so mechanical functionality is critical.

The Screaching Noise is the timeing belt... they do make a anti screach spray i hear that works... it just oil i think... and for loseing compression and white smoke just at start thats the vaulve guide seals... its very domenent on mitsubishis that the rubber seal will shrink and let oil into the cylender and loose compression.

Man you guys must be crazy...buying rings before you even test it? you're just gonna teardown the engine before finding out the problem? you must have a lot of time on your hands lol. More than likely it's your valve guide seals, you can lose compression from more than just your piston rings. What if one of your pistons has a hole in it, what if the cylinder wall is cracked? Just for future reference don't just go buying parts before you know the problem, save yourself some $$! Anyways, the screetching is probably the water pump leaking onto the belt (water pump seal). Timing belts squeak lightly and so do drive belts. But when you get the loud embarassing screech, that's coolant getting on your pulley. Not saying that's all it can be, but that's the most common case.

i agree totally and thats just what i said to him... dont suspect the worst first... you have got to understand to change the piston rings you have to pull the engine... and your looking at alot of money... and if your going to do that you might as well go for a complete rebuild... your looking a couple thousand dallors just to replace piston rings... first go get you heads looked at i bet you its the vaulve guides, its a very comon case in 3000gt and eclipse the ring will tend to shink causeing you to loose compression and also burn a little oil... and to do that your looking at 400 dollars max. over a couple of thousand dollars. and if that doesnt fix it well if your going to rebuild your engine you will need to rebuild your heads anyways. you cant add new on old. so go get you vaulves guides replaced trust me thats is probaly it... and if not then look at the piston rings.

ok so what is this spray called?

what the spray to stop the squeaking...? iono i think its just called antisqueak spray to tell you the truth... heck you could proubly spray WD-40 and get the same effect. but i bet the stuff you buy wont leave a residue...
