tapping?

i'm hearing a tapping noise when the rpms get to about 2000 - 2200 rpms. I hear it most while driving at 2000 rpm in second gear, it gets louder up to 2200 rpm then starts to go away as they go up. thanks for the help.

what kind of tapping noise? from which side does it seem to come from?

Does the car vibrate?

it sounds more like a metal to metal sound and i think its coming from the driver side valve cover. no the car doesn't vibrate.

First things first, run the car one time QUICKLY with no belt, to be sure it isn't an accessory.

Then check the balancer to make sure it is OK,

If all this is OK, how fast does it knock?

Valvetrain=slower than engine speed. could be bent pushrod, bent valve, stuck injector, broken valvespring, timing chain problems, etc.

Rod bearing knock-faster than engine speed

wrist pin/scored piston-same as engine speed. Could also be spun main bearing.

Very hard problem to diagnose without seeing/hearing the car.
