I am looking to buy a 1999-2001 Nissan Maxima within the next couple of weeks. I have done a lot of research, but would really appreciate input from anyone with experience and much greater knowledge than myself of these cars. Which model year of these three(or others) would you consider the best, or most trouble free? I have read that the 99-01 Maximas all experienced problems with ignition coils and mass air flow sensors... Is there anything else I should look for? How good is Nissans warranty... Does it pass on to a second (plus) generation owner? I will be driving it as a family car, but love the looks of these cars and what I have read about their engines. Anyhow, thanks for your time. It is very much appreciated.

These cars are very reliable. I have a 200 Max with 70K miles and just replaced my first ignition coil. I could have done it myself but was lazy and paid Nissan $160 for parts and labor. Other than that it has only been preventative maintenance, a do it myself front and rear brake job and new tires at 50K. If the previous owner took relatively good care then buy with confidence.

the 99 is a 4th generation, however, the 200 and 2001 are 5th generations, which are heavier, but provide more horsepower, so it's basically just a matter of looks. the 99's have had problems with bad coil packs, but the best 4th gen in my opinion is the 98, that's what I have. The 5th gens i don't really have experience with, but on the whole these are very reliable cars.
