civic with type R engine swap help

I am looking to buy a 96 to 98 honda civic hatchback and was deciding to do a type R engine swap. I do not know a great deal about type R engines so i would like some info and some advice on what to do, what must be done, and other suggestions. any replies will be greatly appreciated as long as no flames. thank u.

inline 4 cylinder with 185 hp @ 8200 rpm, 9000 rpm Redline,
the b16b has a compression of 11.5, a displacement of 1,1595cc

The B16B does not have a 9000 rpm redline. More like 8450.

There is also the Integra Type R engine 1.8 liter 195 hp.

compression is 10.8:1, and fuel cut is at 8400ish. If that fuel cut is turned off via some kind of computer/piggyback, yes, the engine can spin to 9,000rpm, but have fun rebuilding it after doing it so many times.

I assume he was talking about the integra type r engine anyways, which has 195hp, and cost anywhere from $4200-$5,000+ on internet sites. My advice would be to buy a cheaper engine (like a B18B dohc non vtec) and turbocharge it, unless you want the reliability of a naturally-aspirated engine.

More advice would be to buy a ~'96 Camaro Z28 if you want speed because it will cost less than a civic and engine swap..

sorry about the late reply. i went to US to find a type R engine for cheap so i didn't have access to a comp. Im back now. First of all, thanks for all the advice and suggestions from you guys. I haven't really decided what i plan to put on my car. I have my sights set on a TYPE R engine but i currently have only 10,000 to spend and that's in canadian currency which is not a hell of a lot. Im still trying to see if it will be enough. keep those suggestions up guys. thanks

Yes, of course it is enough. 10,000 canadian equals 8,000 US dollars. You can get any Type R engine for that money...ITR, CTR, ATR...

Get a 1.8 liter from an integra and turbo it, you can do it for that money.

If you want an n/a motor, the reliablity of an n/a set-up and you can afford it, the Type-R is a great choice.

If you want boost, it's an awful choice. The c/r is too high for boost, and if you swap and rebuild the internals to a lower c/r, you just removed what makes it a type-r, what you paid all that $$. If you want boost get a B18B1 and boost it to 12psi or a GSR and boost it to 8psi.

For $8,000 US dollars, you can certianly afford any of these options, B16B CTR, B18C/B18C5ITR, or a B18B1/B18C1 on low boost. Which option is best for you really depends on your wants, needs and goals.

Since you have seperate money saved for the car that is different from the motor fund, as was said before, $8000 USD to spend on the motor swap is certainly more than enough to swap in any of the above motors you wish.

That could put a Camaro Z28 into the 11's.. Just an fyi.
