I am seriously looking at buying an Accord within the next couple of weeks.Because I will probably purchase a 99-02 Model,I am wondering about the Automatic transmission problems with this vehicle. Are the problems just with the V6 Model,or does the 4cylinder have a history as well?Does Honda stand behind the 4 cylinder if it does have a problem? To what extent does the original manufacturers warranty carryover to a 2nd (plus) generation owner? Are there any additional points that I should consider?I really do appreciate your time and help with this.....I just don't want to make a big mistake.

I own an 02 Accord V6 and have not has any problems with the transmission. Warrenties generally carry over when the car changes hands the first time, so if you'd be the third owner, you might be out of luck. However, Honda's warrenties are not very long and just about any but the 02s would have expired by now.

I have a '99 EX V-6 with 91K now and everything is fine. I'd just make sure all maintenance are up to date and were performed on time.
I change the oil every 3500 to 4000 miles or so with synthetic, and transmission every 15K with Honda OEM fluid. I wasn't sure about the type to use (Dexron III, type IV, etc.), so just went Honda since only $4 or so per quart and it only takes 3.1 quarts.
There is a higher than usual defect rate for the 99-02 model Accord V-6, but we're talking a minimal number of cars affected. Plus, people who come onto forums like this are looking for problems with vehicles because they have those problems.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the transmission. Just check the maintenance records.
Good luck.
