04 acceleration lags - by design?

I just purchased an 04 V6. It has good acceleration but takes almost a full second before it actually begins the acceleration.

For example, I'm driving down the highway at 60 and I punch it. There is a very noticable delay before it takes off.

I want instant acceleration. I press the accelerator, I expect it to jump! How do I fix this?
