Hello--I'm a new member of this Forum and this is my first post. I'm in search of an early, preferrably red, NSX in very good to excellent condition in the Northeast. I'm not very knowledgeable about these cars, as I've been a Ferrari owner for awhile, and would appreciate any advice in finding, buying, maintaining an NSX. Are there any major body differences among the '91-'95 models? What is a reasonable price for a vg-to-excellent model w/i these years? Thanks in advance for any input.

No major body differences in the 91-95 models.

Search in www.ebaymotors.com
www.autotrader.com

NSXs are going from 25 - 40 K in those years.

Thanks for the replies and links, guys. I look fwd to becoming an owner-member of the NSX community. Feel free to let me know if you hear of any NSX's for sale in that year range. I'm in the middle of a sale of my ferrari 308 right now and should be ready to acquire an NSX soon.

Happy motoring!

From what I understand that 308 is expensive to maintain. Your going to find owning the NSX refreshing because all your going to be replacing is clutches and tires. It is a shame that you are only now attempting to aquire that car and didn't have it a few months ago. We just had the NSXPO in New York. It is a track event where you really get to find out what your NSX will do. ( if you do not know how to handle your car on the track someone will teach you ). The NSXPO is out west this year (Arizona ).
Price: It is all but impossible to find this car under $27,000. It is very rare to find one under $30,000 most of what you are looking of is between $30,000 and $35,000. The upshot is that most NSX'es have low miles.....To give you an Idea I bought a '98 with 6000 miles for $45,000 ( I looked for a yellow one for 3 years) You are lucky, there are more Red NSX'es than any other color.
The thing to worry about in the first two years of production is a snap ring in the transmission (manual) if it has not been replaced it is a bit of a costly fix. There is also a small issue with the electric windows. If you buy a '93 or newer you will not have the trans issue, it you buy a '95 or new you will not have any issues. if you buy a '96 or newer you get a 6 speed instead of the 5 speed ( 6 speed cheaper to repair ) The '97 also had the optional Targa roof (its cool, I have one). Major body change in 2000. At any rate, anything you could possibly want to know about the car is on http://www.nsxprime.com This is where the owners are. You will find people with cars for sale and will answer ANY questions you have. I hope this helps, and...congradulations!

There are no differences in the body style between 91 and 01. The body style is the same with small differences like the rims like the others said. In 2002 a new body style was introduced with features such as exposed headlights. The targa top was introduced 1995. Although I saw something on a rare number of 1991 NSXs being offered with a targa version. But initialy they were introduced 1995. In 1997 a six speed transmission was added and the NSX recieved an updated 3.2 L V6 making 290HP vs. the 270 HP of the older 3.0 V6. Thats a 20 HP gain. Then in 1999 there was a Zanardi Edition offered. Only 50 were made. It was more raced tuned with stiffer suspension, new rims not offered with the standard model and other little performance features and touches to the interior. Its the sportier version of the car offered to the U.S. like the the TypeS , Type S zero, and Type R is to Japan. If I were you I would get a 97 or newer NSX. They have a six speed gear box and 20 more HP at 290 HP than the older ones. The older NSXs from 95 and back have a 5 speed gear box and 270 HP.

go on nsxprime that is where all nsxers talk mainly....as far as differences 91-94 are 3.0 5 speed obd1 which are the best ones to get because they are easy to modify....the 95-96 difference is drive by wire throttle system and targa top with better stock rims......97-01 3.2 liter, you see a 6 speed tranny, better stock looking rims and refined brakes, 99-01 has security keyless remote entry and zanardi editions 50 ever made in 99.....from my research talking to a nsx expert named Jon Martin of South Bay Acura in Torrance,CA he recommended 91-94 since they are OBD1 in emissions.....he said that there was not much difference in performance and also the coupes are lighter and stiffer than targa tops......he has a 91 nsx like me and has a custom built N/A 3.3L motor at 400hp....he was actually the designer of that package. Give Jon Martin a call if you really want to find out about the nsx...310-539-3636. Good luck
