Replacing the alternator

Toyota is claiming that they have to remove all kinds of parts to get to the alternator in order to replace it. Is that true? The BGB shows only the drive belt necessary to remove, but my car is at Toyota overnight, so I can't take a look myself.

there is a bottom splash cover to take off. If the tech is a good flat rate tech it should be a 30 min job. But sence its a flat rate job your going to get charged alot more.

Well excellent, I will call Toyota first thing in the morning and argue with them over it. If nothing else, I will tow the car myself and just get the alternator from them and save myself the labor $$$.
The car died Sunday night and they were claiming that all together (towing, parts, labor) would be near $700!

get the toyota alt.... they are a good unit.
Stay away from pep girls, auto zone, and what not, The auto stores ones burn out quickly.
Altenators are the only part I get from the dealer. They are worth every cent. Get the dealer part and install it yourself. I am sure there are many of us in your area that would give you a hand anyways,

I bet the part is like $275 $170 in towing, The rest is labor.
