Twisted Metal

(i thought the subject name would interest readers)

Well, anyways, i have a car in which has a half smashed in front end.

The metal is pushed in from the front, and i dont want to take the car in to get it fixed, and so i am attempting to fix the damage myself. I have never fixed a car that was damaged like this, and i dont know how to pull the metal back into normal position.

Is there a tool or machine that does so?

lol they done pull the metal out... they use a whole new front end set up... what did u do hit a tree and not report it to ure insurance company?

As long as your frame isn't bent... visit a junkyard/pick n pull... and swap out used parts... other wise, i wouldn't bother trying to bend it back.

Chances are if you don't know what your doing,don't try and fix it.Your safety is not worth it.

post a picture if you can.... this is what i would do - take off all the damaged parts like forsay the hood is wrecked - like fenders bumper cover header mount - all that shit - an take a look see if there is alot of uni-body damn or sub frame crinks - also check for wrinkles in the frame itself - an report back -

dont worry everything can be repaired - it weither u have the time or the money to - - let me know what ya find - also how fast were u goin an what did u hit?

This is my cavalier. Sorry bout the snow.

I was not driving, i had a friend driving and he hit another car at a red light, doing 30mph. My car suffered all the damage, i am in the process of fixing it right now. Ill put more pics when i finish.

hard to say. my brother has a chevy blazer, smucked a tree. insurance company wasnt gonna fix it, so we did it ourselves. the frame was bent in spots, and the hood, grill, bumber, everything was bent. got rid of those. we put the truck into park and tied the front end to one of those chain things with a lever to tighten the chain. dont kno what their called. but anyways. tied the other end to a pole, and used that to pull out some of it. the rest, i tied a plain chain to the pole, and attached it to the bent pieces, put the truck in reverse, bam!. presto!. with a little work using a hammer and my welder, i got it all back together with new hood, grill, ect. i'm not sure how hard it is to do it with a cavalier, since i havent hit anything yet. but you should be able to do it. depending on how bad it is, you might need a weel alignment. maybe not, your friend just hit head-on. meh. just thought u would of gotten a few ideas to help you out. by the way, it only took me about 2 days to get it all done. :-)

Car doesn't look that bad. Try a local junkyard or www.car-part.com for parts in your area. Shouldn't be any structural damage by the way it looks but sometimes the area around the bumper mounts gets bent up and has to be pulled back straight.

Thanks for the help. chevyguy93 i did the same thing with using the chain to pull back the metal, but i still need to hammer it down. The other pieces that are broken are the front lights, passenger side fender, front bumber, ac, radiator and mindshield and the grill. But other than that, thats about it.

it doesnt look to bad - would prob. be bout 1200 to get the body work done, depending on the rate at the body shop,

oh by the way are all those cars yours? got some nice ones

couple of people have metro's around here that they take to the track an they can make then run 9's an 10's on very low budgets - its crazy an kinda funny seeing a car that u know is suposed to be a slow economic auto rippin down the strip lol

Just found your post. My son just did the same thing. What did you decide to do? I am getting ready to take the fromt end off and see what other damage. Just worried about all the bolts and parts. Its been a looooooong time since I tried anything close to this. Any help would be appreciated. Everything runs fine except hole in radiator. I got a V6 and radiator and its expensive. $200.00. Wish me luck.

I actually fixed my car in two days.
I had taken off the hood, header, and front right fender(all the damaged peices) I used a metal bar and 2x4 and put it at top of metal(frame piece) to the bottom metal(bumper) and i actually was able to bend back the metal into its normal position and then just hammered down the metal that was damaged. I saved all the bolts as i took them off and saved all the sizes for the ratchet. Then went to the local junkyard and got a hood for $50, fender $35, and a header for $50. I finished the car in 2 days. I also have a hole in my radiator as well, but i drive it as it is now, just have to keep putting in coolant and make sure i dont overheat.
I would get a new radiator, it will only run me about $90.00 but i am saving for a new car. Im selling my car for about $600

The car is for sale. $600. 84k Miles. Perfect interior. Cd Player, new breaks, battery. Exterior needs a little work, put new peices on but they need to be painted. I will leave in the 2 12" subs in trunk for an extra $100. If anyone is interested email me at [email protected]

I didnt sell the car(no buyers)
I bought all new peices for the front of my car and will be putting them on and a new paint job coming as well. But today after school I went to get into my car and there is a big scrape all along the side of my driver-side door. So now I have to replace the driver-side door as well because the metal is pushed in to much to fix.(the kid who hit me better not let me find him) Thanks for reading!
