I'm interested in getting a manual mustang 5.0 for a daily driver and take to the 1/4 mile strip every once in a while. I plan on modding it with I/h/e, then maybe more down the road. I was wondering what year(s) you all would recommend. I was thinking a newer one, probobly 95, just because it would most likely have the lowest miles, be in the best condition, etc. How much stock horsepower do they have and what kind of stock quater mile times do they run. What kind of price range do they fall in? And also why are they called fox bodys?

Hope that made sense and any help would be appreciated.

94/95 is going to be heavier than the previous Stangs the V8's are rated at 215hp. Stock a 94-95 5.0 stick will run high 14's/low 15's average. Price range some of the guys who are into these cars can help you better than I.

79-93 are called Fox-body Mustangs cause they sit on the Fox-chassis.

would it be worth buying a 93 or earlier to save the weight?

it all depends on what you ahve planned for the car really... any stang can be made to go "fast" w/ teh size of the aftermarket parts industries but it would be somewhat easier w/ the fox bodies over the sn94 and 95's simply because of the difference in weight. i personally like the 94s and 95s best...

i like the look of the fox mustangs better than teh SN95 ones personally... and they're a couple hundred pounds lighter. they're actually rated at 225 hp. i just got done converting my 5.0 to a manual tranny and couldn't be happier with it.

'93 was the last year for the fox

'86 was the first year for fuel injection (and the best look imho)

'89 was the first year for mass air

and '93 was the first year of the cobra

88 California cars also had Mass Air. It's up to you if you want a fox body, or 94/95. The weight isn't that much of a difference. There's a guy on www.corral.net w/ 294rwhp in an 95 GT VERT, running low 12s. Of course he has AFR16s and an FTI custom cam, but that's only 1600 bucks for those goodies :D 79-04 Mustangs are all built on the Fox chassis. They're the same basic design, except each generation, has some slight improvements. 99-04>94-98>79-93 (for chassis quality). But for 100 bucks you can stiffen up a fox-body. Then install some through the floor subframes, and not worry about any flexing!

#1 Guys try not to bring up old threads

#2 79-93 Mustangs sit on the fox-chassis hence called fox Mustangs. And yes 94-04 sit on a modified fox-chassis but modified and designated Fox-4 chassis. So there not all fox-chassis.
