Hi guys. I would like to say thank you to everyone for such positive responses on my first model submitted on here. You guys have given me the motivation I need to start making my models again. Actually, not making them but completing them :) . As I stated before, I would post up a progress thread on my second attempt at Abflug. Here are the beginnings:
(NOTE: The flash hides alot of the details)

I'll see if I can get home early enough to take some pics outside in the sunlight. That way the white primer won't hide the details when the flash hits it. Hope you guys like it. Still a long way to go...

Yeah, looking good so far! Hmmm, think I saw this line some where else!? You could take pics without the flash indoors too. If you can adjust the white balance in your cam there's no problems to use whatever lightsource you have at home. Could use some tweaking in photoshop or equivalent software to get the colours right. Waiting for more pics from you.

they are about the same to me (difficulty-wise). similar styles. the big difference to me is that the latter of the two doesn't have bodylines as sharp as Abflug. i wanted to do that one as well though. maybe I will. :grinyes: i recall someone else attempted to create that one before right?

i think yours is the one i remember! looks really good! tips? hmmm.... i don't really have much to share, i kinda look up to everyone on here. i don't use anything special, just a boat load of putty and styrene (now that i know where to buy it locally). for my first attempt, i used only putty (this was like 3-4 years ago)! the details aren't great because of that but here's the pics. i say it's abflug-ish since it's impossible to recreate the details using only putty.

THAT IS AWESOME! As ricey as the body kits look, AB flug cars are some of the greatest works of art (body wise) that I've ever seen. Your replication is astounding. It looks like it's going to come out pretty damn close, if not exact compared to the real thing.
JDM-AE86
11-28-2004, 05:26 AM
ricey...hmmm not exactly the word to be using there... When has a JDM product ever been ricey? Does this mean that all extreme wide-body kits are ricey? including all the JGTC cars? I mean it may be your opinion but not only do the cars that ABFlug modify have the power to back up the kit, unlike what a ricer is: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Ricer

Easy there sport, SR5 isn't trying to come down on Abflug or anything. He's just saying that the Abflug bodykit looks a little too much show and not enough performance for sensibilities sake.
They're style over substance and incorporate a lot of odd and non-functional styling elements (like those absurd Testarossa-esque "hips") but they come together to work quite well as far as body kits go.
Heck, it's even in his post "one of the greatest works of art (bodywise) I've ever seen."

What ever happend to having a showcar for the purpose of it being strictly a show car, and actually have lots of money put in it. That isnt rice.
That supra is coming along very nicely, its got to be the best supra model ive seen in a LONG time.

I never meant to say anything bad about ABFlug. I simply said it's a little, extreme. I mean, it's not every day you see something that looks like that on the road. Supra's are hardly rice, ABFlug's are hardly rice. The kits are simply great works of art. If you saw that body kit on a honda civic, what would you think? Rice, or at least I would.
I understand the whole ''show car'' theme. It's just in my honest opinion. It's hard to have a car that looks real good, but isn't all that quick in the "GO" department. I'd really like to see alot more of these types of body kits made, because it in fact, makes the cars unique.
Now, if we can simply move on with the topic at hand, I'm sure everyone would like to see some progress. :bigthumb:

thanks again you guys. seems alot of comments have been made over the weekend (i don't have internet access at home, most of internet time is during my shift at work). about the ricey thing, i hate that term because well, i'm asian and it's degrading. rice is something that people eat, and any asian culture can relate to that. in terms of "ricey" as it applies to cars, i'm going to share with you guys my viewpoint. my brother in law told me that the term "rice rocket" stems back way before the import scene blew up here in the states, more specifically southern california. i grew up in this era and seen all different versions of cars and conversions and styles come and go. actually, i have a car for all era's. i have:
my ricemobile showcar which doubles as my car i drag race with(still in progress unfortunately)

and just for kicks, me and my girlsfriend's drift machines together
http://www.hdpixel.com/gallery/data/500/377beach_325-med.jpg
so my brother in law says to me that the term rice rocket came from the harley davidson biker guys in the 70's/80's. he told me it was their way of describing japanese sport bikes when they first appered. i'm sure you guys have heard the term pocket rocket or crotch rocket before. well, that was the nickname of these japanese sport bikes because of their size and ability to accelerate like a rocket. then the term rice was added because of the origins of the manufacturers. moving forward, the import scene blows up, honda's rule, eventually, everything japanese is modified, trends change, etc. and eventually what is not considered part of the current trend is deemed "rice" or "ricey" and it irritates the crap out of me.
everyone is entitled to their opinions, and when you are modifying a car in any visual manner you have to be ready to take on positive and negative feedback. i wish i could make everyone bow down to my ricemobile because i've personally done all of the body work and engine mods to it. but that ain't never gonna happen, especially since honda's are common place now, even a "riced" out one like mine. as far as cars in general go, i like my cars to have a good overall balance of modifications. some show appeal as well as an engine to make it perform and a suspension to make it handle. and that goes for all three of my current rides.
as far as "rice" goes, i say all my cars are riced out. i don't really care when people say bad things about my cars, i just smile and say "that's cool. i bet you couldn't accomplish the things i have" or when some young buck kid talks big about how the $20,000-$30,000 car their mommy and daddy just bought them does these phenomenal things and step in and say "that's nice. can i see you do them? because i'm sure i can do it my $2,000 car, but i'll do it better." but when someone says someone else's car is "riced out" it bothers me. especially when they drive basically the same car.
as stated before, everyone is entitled to their opinions, even if the term "rice" is used. but as far as this topic is concerned, i don't think it really matters since we are just creating scaled down replica's of real cars. i think we can all be as "riced out" as we please. we should all have fun with this.
by the way, i didn't take anything previously stated by anyone to heart. i like both positive and negative feedback (although i don't think there was any negative feedback). i just thought i'd share the way i see things.

Man you have nice cars! I like your taste! That showcar is sweet too! Here in NJ there is a 92-95 Gold Civic Hatchback that has a front similar to that but with Japanese Integra DC2 headlights and CWest front. I love the long lights! I see what you mean about the word rice, never really thought soo much into it. But now that you mention it, it makes me think about my comments twice:thumbsup:
BTW: What bumper lips (00 CTR rear? 00 SI front?) and wheels are those on your daily driver. They look awesome on it!

thanks bro. i think i know what hatch that is. was it in one of the magazines? it was a bit too much for me, just a bit. but i still like it's overall appearance. i was planning on custom mounting c-west style front and rear integra bumpers to my primered hatch, but i don't do much body work any more. the lips on my white car are type r style, i'm guessing from the 99-00 CTR but i think it's the same as the Si/factory optional lip kit for the 99-00 civic available here in the states. the wheels are really old school. they are made by work, EWING III i believe.

ha ha! :grinyes: seriously though, i guess i just got some good friends that like to give me things for free. just kidding. but they (two different friends) gave it to me for free. one guy bought a CRX for $800 and those work rims were on it. he said they look like crap and traded me for my old konigs. the other guy with the corolla said his mom was threatening to donate the corolla since it wasn't running. so he let me have it on the condition that i get it to pass smog. funy thing is, the battery just needed to be replaced...and he bought me a new one! sorry to stray off topic, but back on topic, i'm considering making the supra wider. i think i did a good job matching the fenders up to the wheels, but after getting a good look of the fenders of the real Abflug, i think my model isn't wide enough. whuddaya guys think?
