Not planning on any major mods....

...for my '97 Eclipse RS, just a CAI, headers, larger TB, the very BASICS, my question was, since im not planning on getting anywhere close to big power, should I just go with 2.5" or just 2" cat back? (Or is 2" stock?) Or does it even matter? Most ppl say the bigger the better, but one of my buddies has a 96' neon (Same engine as me) and he ran a 3" cat-back and he has super-slow 1-2gear acceleration and it sounds like ass to boot (he has the Apexi N1 muffler). Just wondering which route to go, or if its even a big deal for under 200hp. I just dont want mine to sound as horribly mangled as his neon, performance dosent matter to me, Im thinking, why even bother dropping any REAL money into a RS when I plan on getting a 97+ GSX next summer? Seems pointless to try and make a 420a fast, its just not worth the time, effort and money involved in making big n/t hp, and if you cant go big, dont go at all. (IMO)

Anyways, I just want a little bit of sound inside/outside the car until I get my GSX sometime next summer. I cant stand driving a quiet car (I dont like loud fart cans either, I just want to hear something besides the raw RPMs of my dinky motor.)

Thanks

<EDIT> Oh, and yes I did search, and there were some SIMILAR threads, but none answering my specific question(s).

I'd go with the 2.5". I think 3" would be a waste of money and probably too much if you don't plan of doing any other mods.

I also have a '97 RS and I went with the 2.5". I have a cheap brand cat-back exhaust (Pacesetter) but I'm happy with the results. Nice loud noise inside and outside of car.

I simply cut the muffler and welded on a pice of pipe with a little chrome tip. Sounds great!
