1987 Trans-Am with high miles...whats it worth?

I have an '87 Trans-Am with 218,000 miles. I find it hard to believe that these miles are on that 305 engine without it having been rebuilt, but I guess it is possible. With that in mind, the interior is in ok shape with pretty bad wear on the drivers seat as is common for its age, the body is pretty straight but could use a paint job, and the the engine is runnign very strong with the exception of that carb. problem posted previously. The carb. problem seems to be an easy fix though. All in all it is a decent car with plenty of life left. Any figures come to mind out there on what it is worth? (PS...its a Florida car...no underside rust or topside rust for that matter).

you can pry get 1000-1500 out of it if its in nice shape.. if that.. the mileage kills your resale value.. i'd have to see pics really to tell what i think its worth..

I totalled a 1987 TransAm here recently that i payed 600 for.It smoked a little but ran really good, other than the occasional over-heating.The body and paint were nice, and it had a set of 15x8 Progressive wheels on it,that shined up nice.

It does have the sound system with the steering wheel controls that still work, it has the GTA gold diamond wheels, and it runs strong. No overheating, tranny shifts tight, and the a/c works. The mileage and that carb issue are the only problems. I drove it 500 miles round trip once a month for a while til just recently...

depends on if it has the rear disk setup or not.

No, drum brakes on the rear...the main options were with the interior...sound system, overhead console, etc.

That silver '87 isnt that special...its carburated, doent have the stereo option, and the front nose looks like it isnt lined up right. I find it odd that he would lower the reserve from $5000 to $1426 unless there is something wrong there. Especially with the low miles.

Yeah i know.and hes got 8 bids lined up,and itll end up sellin for 2 grand.

218k damn, it can last that easy if it was taken care of, but yeah $800 would be my limit...b/c the engine I would have to consider shot and in need of replacement, so I would only be thinking about buying the body and putting an engine in it.

Engine is far from shot...periferal stuff may need attention (fuel pump, carb., waterpump maybe) but the engine runs strong...thats why I think it has been rebuilt. Oil pressure holds at about 40-50, after its warm.

if it runs strong then is has to have been rebuilt.i myself have never gotten to a 305 with that many miles and they still have a throttle left

I think it got in a fight with a curb that was pulled up on too closely. Underside air dam caught I think pulling out bottom of nose a little. I'm looking for about $1000, I just want to make sure I'm not way off.

Yeah, I agree, maybe a $800 car...
