What's a Cam Sensor?

I got my car inspected today and they said it was leaking oil from my cam sensor. What is it? how much to repair?

the cam sensor on a n/t is right on the corner of the head next to the air intake. it bolts right to the head. i'm not sure if it's possible to leak from there. it might be coming from somewhere around there. check around it a little bit and see if that's where it's coming from.

i would check it out for yourself and see what you can tell. when you're looking at the engine it will be on the right side of the head on the corner. it'll be a little black sensor. you might want to pull it off and see if that's what's actually leaking oil. it should just take a 10mm socket/wrench to take off the 2 screws and then just un-plug the sensor. (yes, i've taken my engine apart more than once), let me know what you find.

You might want to check by the EGR valve. Mine has a little leak around the EGR valve. It's right below (I think) the cam sensor. I dont think this is supposed to leak, but my car is weird.

And to answer the question in the title, the cam sensor pays attention to what position the camshafts are in.
