I live in Oregon. The only state in the union that doesn't let you pump your own gas. I used to like having to have people pump my gas for me, but now I hate it. Why?
I pull into the station and say "fill it with premium please"
attendant says "alright, sure."
he fills it with regular.
I notice, and say "umm... I asked for premium..."
he says "Oh. Sorry."
he doesn't do anything about it.
I say, "aren't you going to do anything about it?"
he says "well, I already pumped the gas, so you kind of have to pay for it."
ass.
dammit.... we all know high compression lexus V8's just love regular

If you don't live too far from the state line, drive across it and pump your own gas.

What happens if I pump my own gas? I put the right damn kind of gas in it! But seriously, they would come out real pissed off and not let you. If the station lets people pump their own gas, they get in big trouble.
And yeah, I would drive to washington to get gas, but I can't really justify driving the 30 some miles... it would just take too long.

Not true. In NJ...thank god...its illegal to pump your own gas. Personally, I like it when they pump your gas for you. I always go to the same gas station, unless I'm not in the area. And when I do have to go to another, no offence, but I tend to try to pick the gas stations that don't have the little middle eastern men who dont understand or speak english. :disappoin I know what its like to have a mix up, I've had 1 or 2 before also, but they have taken care of it for me and given me free gas...I'm sorry you had such a problem

I thought new jersey changed that law. And this gas station had some caucaisian college student that apparently hadn't gotten enough sleep that week

I think Jersey is like that too. I was on a road trip with my wife and stoped at a gas station. When I walked into the store my wife was listening to the radio, when I walked out, whe was pumping gas for three little punks in a Benz. They were standing by the car while my wife pushed the buttons and put the hose in the car. I looked at them and said "Can I ask you why the fuck my wife is pumping your gas" he said they were from Jersey and never did it before. He was nervous and ofered to pay for my gas, my wife wouldn't let me. I'm so whipped!

I totally can't believe they couldn't figure out how to pump gas. Heck I could do that when I was like 10. Losers.
It's illegal in Oregon to pump your own gas. My husbands parents live down there and everytime we go down they pump our gas and I hate it. I just think its retarded and lazy.
And if they had done that with my car I would've thrown a fit and demanded my tank to be drained and refilled with premium. Not because it absolutely can't have regular, but because I would've been pissed at his attitude. I would've been a major bitch. And I would not have paid for the regular he put in either. I don't do well with shitty customer service.
And thats when I fill up in Washington before I go down to his parents so I have enough gas to get to about Longview/Kelso Washington before I have to refill again to avoid the gas stations in Oregon.

You should be able to sue him for possible damage to your car... If you're not legally able to put your own gas into your own car and someone fucks it up, it's not your fault and you shouldn't pay for it. I'd at least tell someone about it.

I live in New Jersey and here people don't even attempt to pump there own gas. Thats some crazy law, I don't understand what the reasoning behind making it manditory to have someone else pump your gas. Although I am forced to use premuim in both my vehicles also and I watch the attendent very carefully when they go to turn on the pump on. I grew up in NY and moved here from Cali so about a year ago when I moved here. I would get out of my car to pump my own gas all the time and those gas station attendents can run damn quick when you reach for the pump

I would do a whole flip routine on someone pumping the wrong type. A cross between some military sgt-major and hysterical ditz blonde. Enought to draw lots of attention and want his manager to shut me up.

I pump my own gas. The gas station guys still all know me. :uhoh:

meh, I usually try to go to the gas stations that know me. Once I took my BMW in for repairs, and the next time I got gas there the attendant greeted me by name and asked me how the alternator was holding up and if the battery was still charging correctly. Then he cleaned the windshield and offered the check the oil.
That station simply rocks. They use only the best parts (not just what they say, they actually do this), always get it right the first time, and are honest, cheap, and fast. Never is there any unnecessary work performed. Sometimes they even deliver the car to my house when they are done working on it!!! :bigthumb: Ocassionally they don't even charge me labor if the job was quick and easy.
Every once in a while they will purposely fill my tank when I only ask for $20 worth, and then they only charge me $20.

Personally I dont let those fuckers touch my car, they can do the windows that about it. When I first got my car I let them do it but the fucked up everytime. Id get out of my car say $20 of the regular and they would put in $20 premium or would just fill it with the regular (a real pain in the ass when you know your debit card is sitting at home on your dresser and you only have a 20 in your wallet) At the gas station I go to, at least i used to go to school with a girl that works there so she give me a "little discount" of $5 or $10 off my gas

Today I paid $2.15 a gallon for my premium. Thats down quite a bit from a few weeks ago.
ALWAYS fill up when you drive through indian reservations. They don't have to pay federal taxes on the gas, so its like 25 or 35 cents cheaper per gallon.

NJ gas is cheap as hell usually around 1.90 for premuim around here but I was amazed to see how cheap gas in the southern eastern states is. I did a road trip from NY to LA and from VA south along I-10 I was paying like 1.55-1.75 for Premuim. I'm sure it went up slightly now but at the time that was still like 20 cents per gallon cheaper than NJ.

Got orders to move there next August and I sure as hell don't want to go there. Keep hoping someone else will volunteer to go there. And the thought of someone else pumping my gas for the next 3yrs, thats almost enough to divorce my husband right there lol.

I remember when I got gas in Oregon for the first time. The attendant came up and asked me what type of gas I needed. I asked him if there was a self serve pump. He pumped my gas while I stared at him, and I asked him not to top off the tank, but he did anyway. Then I felt awkward because I didn't know if I was supposed to tip him or something. So in conclusion, Oregon is retarded.

Reasoning behind the law:

It varries from a low of about £0.94 to over £1.05 per litre. depending obviously upon where you buy it.
Using the cheapest option
4 litres to One US gallon so thats £3.76 per gallon
todays exchange rate is 1.86 US dollars to the pound making it $7.03 per gallon (today) thats using the lowest figure. (£0.94)

I checked this out a few years ago after going through NJ and talking to some people there. NJ law states something like gasoline is a dangerous substance and only trained people can handle it, so the employee has to pump it for you. I bet OR is the same type situation.
I'd have hit up the gas station for some octane boost to make the 87 octane he put in get up to the 93 that you asked for.

At the risk of getting banned or worse:
Mr. Gas Station Attendant (a bad poem)
Mr. Gas Station Attendant,
My RPM’s are ascendant.
After a wild drive
I feel quite alive
But with my gas gauge low
I have to go slow.
I saw your sign, it glowed
Up ahead - beside the road.
I pulled in with exhaust rumble
Out the door you did tumble
I asked for a full tank
And the hose you did yank
NO! I said, I need high test
For with it my engine runs best.
I went in to the bathroom
(not realizing yet you’re a buffoon)
And returning I find
That you’re pumping low test slime
My eyebrows I raised
While you stood, eyes glazed
Insolently staring
Not even caring
I asked you to change
you looked at me strange
Said it's almost full anyway
You'll just have to pay
My desire to knock you to the ground
Went away when the police came around
It would only be proper
(Damn! If not for that copper….)
I hauled out my money
You thought it was funny
I paid for YOUR mistake
Started the car, released the brake
Then I was forced to drive off
My poor engine acough
I promised, I swore
Never to visit you anymore
I decided right then
I wouldn’t buy gas in *$^@#$ Oregon again!!

A bunch of friends and I took a rode trip to NYC from Canada one weekend and stayed in NJ (it's cheaper) and we had to fill up my friends dads Escalade. His dad only wanted Premium in it and to remind the rest of the family, he put a big RED sticker on the inside of the gas door thingy. And then on the gas cap he put red stickers that said PREMIUM. Well, lo and behold, the moronic gas attendent put in regular sludge.
Wouldn't it f&^% up the engine if you mixed premium (that was still in the engine/tank) with regular??

You wouldn't hurt anything by mixing 2 different octanes......basically you just get the average of the two fuels.
