Sleeper elcipse

Hey i have a 97 eclipse rs. theres nothing special about it but the fact the body is in more or less mint condition other thant a few dents. I want to make this into a sleeper, but i have the engine and tranny in it. should I do a swap (if so what can i put in there) or just say fuck it and buy a gsx???

its only a sleeper if it stills has the gs writing on the back. because(don't tell anyone)but whenever i see a dsm with exhaust, i think to myself "that thing might blow me away"

i dont think any eclipse at all makes a good sleeper. an eclipse looks fast... so its no surprize when it is. yeah maybe its a surprize if you know the diference between a rs and a gsx and you know a rs is supposed to be slow but in reality i dont think any eclipse qualifies as a true sleeper. a true sleeper should be something completly deceptive, like the turbo minivans from the 80s or something thats suppose to be total shit but goes dammm fast. i mean damm a eclipse rs? thats just a reved down sports car not sleeper material.

if you do buy a gsx or gst you should put the OZ edition wheels on it and then youll really be a sleeper

a real sleeper is a Civic DX, VX, CX haha with a 2.2L or 1.8 vtech 1.6 etc....

Hey, awhitcomb615, where do you live? I sold my 97 rs to a guy named Andrew not to long ago who said he wanted to make it a "sleeper".

Im from main... my car hasnt seen a winter since i have had it but the dumb bitch before me didnt keep up with anything so i more or less fixed all her shit but it looks perfect right now

i have tried to make a sleeper as much as i can out of my gst, but everytime i get next to someone to race them and they hear my loud ass bov the back away, the only person i have raced senced i moved to PA is a friend from work that has a 91 mr2 :rolleyes: , he beat me :mad: .

Eclipse sleeper recipe:
-2g GSX with GS or RS emblem (1gs are notorious for being fast, and I think people would suspect them more)

:D I still have my RS badge, when people hear my turbo spool up from the exhaust their reaction is always like WTF. Always gets a 2nd look. haha

-big T28 turbo and the fuel mods to make it maximize its efficiency (looks like the stocker, if someone finds out you're turbo before the race...they'll still think you're as slow as a stock turbo DSM)
-Dejon big sidemount, or the equivalent hidden sidemount IC--cools better than several FMICs do
-a 2.5" downpipe with an electric cutout before the stock catback (keep the stock muffler, and the stock exhaust tone until the race is on)
-1g recirc'd bov
-MBC under the hood
-SAFC mounted in the visor, headliner, or glove box
-instrument cluster gauge bezel with your boost and egt or whatever else you've got--no a-pillar flair
-stock wheels, stock bumpers, everything exterior stock
-cloth interior--true GSXs have leather, so with cloth seats, there's no way they would suspect you ;)

That would be a nice sleeper alright. Mid-low 12s on a well tuned car and incredibly quick spool off the line. That car would have a lot of corvettes and cobras crying.

i could add a few things to this recipe. and its much more convincing

-remove turbo high spoiler, install oem style GS spolier.
-get black steal wheels with walmart chrome 15" wheel covers
-get a bright yellow "eclipse" sticker on the front windsheild
-get a hugh bright yellow mitsu diamond sticker on the back windshield
-get some purple walmart tint and put it all really bad, make some peeling off on every window
-put few "turbo v-tech DOHC" stickers on the sides
-a NOS sticker on the hood wouldn't hurt.
-most important put a "Type R" badge next the the GS one.


my point is make them think your car is shit!! not stock. just picture this car smoking a vette or something, the other guy would crap his pants. not think "that fucking sleeper"

I 2nd that. Just keep the car clean, stock looking, RS badging, get some black vinyl for your door handles and you're set.

Get a not so loud bov and don't vent.

i would like everything to look stock on my car execpt for some lighter wheels, i also like a loud bov to turn heads....
