i need a 240sx w/low miles.....less then 100k i have some money to spend and i cant drive across the U.S.......the whole prob is i know how reliable the cars are and how they will last forever but my dad doesnt want me to get a car w/hi miles cuz i am going to U.T.I. and i will be driving about 140 miles to get home 1 or 2 times a month... and i will be located within 5-10 miles of the school......the whole thing is convincing my dad aka "enforcer" on how good the cars are built...so if anyone has a car for sale or knows someone with 1 for sale in the wisconsin,Illinois area plase let me know cuz i want one of these cars.thanks for the help...want DOHC 5 SPEED no auto please and no SOHC

You're gonna have to do some more looking on your own. I doubt very many people are going to come up to you (especially in this forum) and offer to sell you their car. Most of the people here love their cars and wouldn't sell and/or trade them for anything else.

No problem, man. 240's are kinda weird. Some people say that they're easy to find, and others say that it's quite difficult. Just keep your eyes open and do a lot of research.

it's easy to find a beat-up cheap s13, but hard to find one in good condition. S14's are especially hard to find

by the way...i dont know the difference between the s13 and s14 cuz i am fairly new to this field...all i know is that my brothers friend had a 240sx 1992 DOHC 5speed...and that was the most responsive car i have ever driven... i just fell in love with these cars and to me this IS the BEST car and me personally i would do anything to have one of these beauties.....sad but true id knock a couple years off my life to have my dream car(240 sx DOHC 5 SPEED)

well since you praise the machines we drive so well, i don't think you'll get flamed for your lack of knowledge, let alone the fact that you didn't do what it says to do on the main page, which is read the faq, nomatter how shitty it is.

the s13 is from 89-93 (94), the 89-90 had the sohc ka24e, the 91-93 had the dohc ka24de

the s14 is from 95-97 (98), all with the dohc ka24de

there is an s15 but its not legal whatsoever in north america

for help:

post budget

post preference

post geographic area you are willing to look

In general the S13 is easy to find, a little harder for 5 spd....but not impossible

In general the S14 is much much harder across the board unless you are looking for an automatic.

Right on, D-Bo. I am also searching for a 240. I am in love with the cars and I know sooo much about them, but I still haven't found "the one"!

Hey I have one for sale Its a 96 240sx car has 68k original miles, with s15 strawberry face conversion, comes with carbon fiber hood and drift front and sides and nismo rear, the kit is molded onto the body, the car also has a dvd screen molded into passenger side dash with a Rockford Fosgate DVD player, has 17" RSL rims and a new red paint. I'm asking $9200 OBO email me [email protected]

DAMN you are SOOOO right as searching autotrader.com would NEVER turn up ANY at that price.....

What's you humble opinion what a 1995 should go for with 75k miles let's say?

s14tilo
11-28-2004, 11:59 AM
Well, the NADA is right around 5000 and the kbb is even higher, but I think that if you are patient and really look hard then you could probably find one for around $4000. If not then you might want to sacrifice some miles. If the car is well kept then the miles won't matter AS much.

alkemyst

KBB and NADA depend a lot on region...however placing a 95 SE with 86000 (the normal mileage according to kbb) miles in 'Good' condition and no other tweaking it came up 7120 automatic retail and 6655 5 spd retail for S. Florida and 4655 with 5spd and 5030 automatic for a 'Private Party' price. S. Florida is a sort of inflated sports car market except for the common cars like camaro, mustang and corvettes. Corvettes down here can be had at bargain basement pricing.

So the other guy having $5k to buy should be ok...I saw a lot of 95's in my search for a kouki...cheap...but some may have not been true SE's once in person. In my search I had a lot of 'fakes' presented to me, even being told there was 5 lugs on each wheel, only to find out they were basing their 'model code' on the registration or carfax's "Base, SE, LE" designation.

billclinton
11-28-2004, 05:39 PM
yeah if you dont have alot of money and dont plan on modifying the car, 5k is more then i would pay for a car. But S14's are much nicer cars then S13's. Interior and exterior wise. BUT i think S14's only look good bright red and lowered.

S13's are good for people like me who can deal with the shitty interior and the bad paint or body the car may come with at this age.

These engines are very very reliable other then the fact they are prone to bad timing chains. I've had them go from 70k in a stanza all the way to 200k in an 89 S13 SOHC

How many KA24DE's have you owned? Seriously I never heard a problem with most chain cars.

Around 80-120k you heard the death rattle...most on the 6 figure side of that. Then you deal with it or just do a more economical rebuild or sell it off depending if you want to keep it or not.

thanks guys.......and by the way... i have a friend that does custom interior work........so the whole interior is getting re-done in black and red.....and im gona spend some money on forged internals and some head work....but it has to have low miles for my dads sake cuz he doesnt care...but i will have a whoe new bottom end in the car in less than a day.cuz i have a fair amount of experience with motors.......the only prob is the DOHC timing im a little shaddy on.....

D-Bo
11-29-2004, 03:46 AM
true.. i paid $5000CDN for my 93.. only cause the rest of them have rotted/bent bodies/frames and my engine is in great shape, not to mention the body (minus 3 insignificant spots and where the monstrosity of a wing used to be).. i'm in ontario so the ones with good bodies will actually be more expensive than the ones with good engines.. i've looked, and there is somewhat of a trend.. and since my plans are to boost my ka, i'm not disappointed with how much i paid

i'm having a hard time believing that its 18,400 miles.. even if its the original owner, they drove it less in the time they owned it than most exotic owners.. but you never know, they might have had it sitting in the yard for years and years and then finally wanted to sell it and gave it a new exhaust, tires and battery

Autofreefindersguy
11-29-2004, 08:52 AM
I have owned 4 240's and I have never seen a problem with the timing chains even with VERY high mileage cars...

Seems like a waste of money if your dad is making you get a very low mile car and your just going to rebuild it anyway?
www.Carbuyer.com is also a pretty good source as you can put in your location to search in our list your car for free there too.

Yeah I thought about an RB56DETT swap or a SR20 with an upgraded turbo but high quality body work drained my pockets, I guess I should of started with performance first and then body, oh well we learn from our mistakes.
