2004 Grand Caravan rough shifting transmission

I have 2004 Grand Caravan SXT Anniversary Edition. We bought it new nearly a year ago and have put 27,000 miles on it so far. It's a beautiful van, but the transmission doesn't exactly inspire confidence. The shifts are mushy and it seems to slip and it has an barely perceptible clunk when it hits overdrive. The torque converter also lags in situations such as short, slow bursts of acceleration and brake application such as moving forward in a line of traffic. By contrast, my 1996 Merc. Villager with 106,000 miles on it shifts a whole lot smoother than this new van woth 80,000 fewer miles on it. I've got the 5-year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper, but wanted to see if this kind of performance is typical -- is it just a rough shifting transmission -- or should I take it in? I've heard that these transmissions typically crap out before 100,000 miles which is pretty poor. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Run, don't walk and sell it quickly. My Van was doing the exact same thing and is in the dealership as I write this. Cost $4273.

Chrysler transmissions are much more reliable now than they used to be. Still you will find some that are not up to standards. I would take the van back to the dealer and let them fix it or replace it for you for free. Good luck.
