Pioneer 6x9 question

Ok, long story short, I mentioned to my friend that one of my factory 6x9's had developed a rattle, and was about to blow, so he said he'd sell me his pioneer 6x9's for 50 bux. I said Ok, bought them, put them in, and yes the polarity is correct, + is to +, and - is to -. They just sound so much crappier than my factories, I took them out. I have a pioneer deh-p6500 to power them. So, shouldnt they sound good? 220W max, and 40W nominal, my deck puts out 50W max, and 22 Nominal, so you would think that they would work, right? I ended up taking a 50.00 loss on them, they sounded so crappy, when volume is low, they sound great, but when its cranked, the bass hardly hits, if at all. I dont know how to explain it. I am pretty sure they arent blown. Any suggestions? Thanks. Maybe just not enough power going to them? I dont know.

why does it sound crappy because it doesnt have bass? does you hu have a highpass filter? if it does then turn it down and then see what is sounds like or wire the speakers the other way cuz mabe something is crossed somewere

I did, I wored them both ways, no my hu does have a crossover, but it was shut off. At one point I had a pioneer hooked up, and a factory, and I faded back and forth, and the factory even sounded better at highs. does that makes sense? I think they are shit, or blown.

Ok First Thing Check The Db On The Speakers The Higher The Number The Less Power U Need The Lower The Number The More Power U Need.if There 89 Db Or Lower U Need An Amp 90 And Higher U Dont Need As Much But It Sounds Like U Need A Amp Not Enough Power To The Speakers.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking, maybe a little amp to punch them. Who knows. They are just sitting here collecting dust right now. But it seems as though, I dont know how to explain it, (they are 3 ways), but when the volume is cranked, the highs are awesome, but when the bass hits, it seems to suck power from the highs, if you kinda catch what I'm saying. they are really loud on treble, and as soon as the bass hits, the treble drops out, and the bass just sounds crappy. Its hard to explain, and it makes no sence as to why this would only happen at higher volumes, but the speakers sound exceptionally well at lower volumes. (good strong deep bass, punchy mids, and clean highs). Its just when they are cranked that they seem to lose it all (by cranked I mean at about a volum of 30, and max for my HU is 60, and my factories can handle about 40 t0 45 before they destort). Makes no sense to me, maybe someone can shed some light on this subject. Who knows.

what kind of deck? what kind of car? some cars have great factory speakers. My TBird came with factory JBLs and they perform equally as well as pioneer 3 way 6x8s that used to sell for 109 bucks in crutchfield. But anyways it sounds to me like your deck is struggling. I say buy a good four channel amp for under 100 bucks. Something that at least pushes 50w x 4 @ 4 ohm RMS, and your 6x9s should be off the heezy for sheezy... no not really, but they will sound better. And if not, then kick your friends ass, take the 50 bucks back, keep the speakers, and tell him he's not your friend anymore and stick your tongue out at him. Then have sex with his sister in order to get your 50 dollars worth, and see if he ever rips anybody off again.

hey i think ur voicecoil is blown, or it could be the way u have them mounted. and also make sure the magnet is not touching any metal, or even in very close proximity to any metal. plus, check to make sure the poles are not close to any metal either. i have pioneer 6x9's and i had the same problem, with my old car, so i remounted them and they were fine. hope this helps.

yeah, mounting isnt and issue. I have dinked around with so many things, I am at a loss. No, he's not my friend anymore, and his sister is butt ass ugly, so either way, I'm fucked over.(literally) Thanks for the suggestions though guys. I may borrow a small amp from a friend, and just see how they sound with that. Anyone want to buy a couple 6x9's? I'll go cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I increaed the wattage going to each speaker with a small pioneer amp. Instead of 22rms and 50 peak from the head, they now each get I believe 50rms, and 100 peak watts from the amp. This should be more than enough to power them, right? Ok, so the treble, (mids and highs) no more cut out when the bass hits, but the speakers alltogether sound shitty as hell. Even with a more than powerfull enough amp is powering them. It makes no sense. They are going in the trash.
