Interesting police chase tonight ...

My girl and I were coming home from grocery shopping tonight and I saw a bit of action. :)

As we were entering a long exit ramp to get on the expressway I saw a car down on the expressway cruising at a fairly good rate (maybe 75-85 mph) and there was a PA State Tropper about 6 cars behind with his lights and sirens on. As I am watching this I realize the dude is not stopping ... I said to my girl, check it out he's not stopping!

Then I see 2 more PA Tropper cars coming flying up the highway after them at a real healthy rate 90+ ... I am still only part way down the exit ramp and I look over my shoulder and I see 2 more Staties really flying in the same direction ~ well over 100 mph.

Right as I am about to merge, here comes Statie #6 flying by real fast ...
So Imerge and get over behind him (he is already way gone since I am only at 55-60mph) and I start to speed up to see what was going on.

The next exit up the road (about 3 miles) is my exit and I was asking my girl if we should follow the chase or take our exit ...

... the decision was made for us. :) As we got to my exit, it was packed with the 6 cruisers. All the cops are jumping out with their guns drawn aiming over their open doors like they're suppose to.

I was like damn ... luckily we had just got a pizza, so I cracked open the box and started eating while we watched :D ... we were at the top of the ramp, so we were still healthy distance away. 2 or 3 cars stopped behind us.

Anyway they arrested one dude and they were still apparently working on getting someone else out of the car. We couldn't figure out why the dude stopped in the middle of a long straight exit ramp.

Anyway, it started taking for ever, so I went across the shoulder back onto the highway to turn around at the next exit and then is when we realized why the dude stopped in the middle of the ramp :D

A local police officer in one of those HUGE police SUVS had come up the ramp the wrong way!!! That must have been a site for the "runners" to see upon entering the ramp! lol ...

Uhm .... busted.

Sounds pretty interesting, lol. I bet a few "choice words" were used by the drivers of the speeding car when they saw the lights from the SUV heading in their direction.

TypeS, I can guess who you are linking to without even clicking it!

I really wish I had my camera with me ... I'll check the newspaper tomorrow (I work at the paper) so I should be able to find out what was going on.

You mean you ate pizza in Jekyl or Hyde? You should be ashamed of yourself. That chase must have been interesting. My mechanic told me the story about one time he got into a police chase. It was during the late 80s, back when the speed limit everywhere was 55, and apparently spedometers were limited 55. Someone bought in a red Ferrari complaining that it made a weird noise at 85. He didn't what it could have been, so he decided to take it for a test drive. He's going 85 in a 55 on the interstate, when he notices a cop in the median. Well, he's driving a Ferrari, so he downshifts, and floors it. He said second time around the spedometer got up to about 70. That's about 170 mph in a Ferrari. He took the first exit and got away. He never did that again.

Im watching worlds wildest police chases right now, I love watching them but the narrator guy pisses me off so bad with some of the BS he says. luckily the suspects driving was no match for the officers years of training and practice or whatever and this is after it took the cop like 8 hits to finally make him loose control, AFTER both rears were shot out and the cop took longer to regain control after every one of the first 7 hits.

they try and make cops out like they are the most gifted people in the world.

when I die though, thats how Im going out. in a stolen ferrari or something. :evillol:

Lol, this video always comes to my mind.

http://content.collegehumor.com/media/movies/bmwm3vspolice3.wmv

It's a 15 year old in a E30 M3 that get's away from the police, and this idiot who's commentating says that "the BMW breaks down." If you look closely, when he said that, they're just replaying the part of the 15 year old making a U-turn. I guess they just didn't want everyone finding out that the 15 year old got away.

Some cops are gifted, I've seen some pretty bad ass driving by the men in blue, and I have alotta respect for them (my dad was a cop for ten years). However, not all of them are great. Also, those Crown Vics are boats...

I love that video though.

Oh, and I wanna go out after stealling a Mclaren F1, robbing a bank, and leading police on a cross state chase in which speeds never drop below 150mph. Or peacefully in my bed surounded by family. I'm a man of extremes.

I dont really have any disrespect for any of them, but I do hate a select few, I got pulled over with my friend (him driving) for wreckless driving, he flew into a mall entrance like double the posted speed and someone had just got hit there a week earlier by somebody doing the same thing, he get let off and I get pulled over for 11 over on a back road and the ass gives me a ticket, and Ive gotten pulled over a couple times over here on the east coast and been told Im the biggest dumb-ass this guys ever seen in his life. and another told me quit giving him so much sarcastic bull shit and being a smart ass, and I simply told him I wasnt trying to be a smart ass I just wanted to know if the man whop told me the story about plates was true and I did buy the car not steal it and heres the title and told me to shut my mouth cuz im just being a sarcastic little bastard and that he cant make a titrle on the computer in 10 minutes.

and im sure there are some cool cops out there and some good drivers, but they ALWAYS try making cops sound like they are god on those shows, and I think i saw that BMW video once, its a sweet vid. I hate it how they never show anybody who gets away, but I guess that could just encourage more people to run from them. I liek it to when they say stuff like "but his performance vehicle hugs the road and swerves quickly around the spike strips" and then they are chasing a civic or something.

Okay, I got a few comments:
1) 13 MR2's?! Holy cow! That's frickin' messed up! Awesome, but messed up! :)
2) That video rocks!
3) I'm going out in a stolen ferrari as well! How cool would that be?!

Wait .... 13 is incorrect. I have had 11 MR2s.

11 MR2s over 11 years ... and it's not like they were all turbo beasts.

Only 4 were MKII turbos, 2 MKII NAs .... the other five were MKIs.

I paid $9400 for the last 5 MR2s I have owned ... that's only $1,880/per car on the average.
How many of you have spent close to $9800 on one car?

I'm trying to decide what I should do. I kind of like MR2 thanks to you Jeff, but it's sort of a tossup between:
1. putting a k20a2 in my CRX cost $5-6000, hp=220, but still fwd, not good for scca events
2. getting about a 93-94 mr2 turbo for about $5000, would take time to get used to, plus it would probably have a lot of miles on it
3. get about a 99 miata with under 75000 miles on the engine, the bad: it's like 140 hp and it would cost like $7-8000.

I'd go for the MR2 if I were you. That's just my opinion. ( or a 240! :) )

clawhammer, in todays world of the Internet you may want to look at what kind of community support you would get with each car.

Compare the CRX, MR2 and Miata boards and see what the people are like. The MR2 board is down right now ... should be up by tomorrow. I've never been on the CRX and Miata boards, but I know the MR2 worls is very welcoming.

I am not a fan of FWD ... so you know which way I would go with your decision :)

I agree, RWD is definitely the way to go.

Also other than the turbo charger itself, what is going to be the difference between the non-turbo and turbo models of mr2s? If I get an mr2 then i'll just get a t3/t4 turbo, that basically replaces the stock turbo, correct?

JekylandHyde
11-24-2004, 06:58 AM
The entire engine is different between the turbos and the NAs. The NA have a 2.2 l and the turbos are 2.0. The tranny/exles are also different.

There is a lot of little creature comfort things that are better in the turbos than the NAs as well.
