Hey guys i need your help! The grocery store i used to work at (food lion) are turning to Harvey's in the Statesboro area. One of harveys dress code rules is that no one can have facial hair, only a neat mustache is allowed. One problem is most of my buddies that still work there have beards or other facial hair, how can these guys get around it. And be serious please...

Sucks for your friends, but if they work for that company, they have to abide by their rules. Minimum wage is a b!tch, ain't she?

Why not all grow neatly trimmed little Hitler mustaches. They'll be begging you to go back to beards...
Seriously though, you've answered your own question. If the policy is no facial hair, then you can't have facial hair. I don't see a way to "hide" it or anything...

It's not that big deal. Just shave. Or find another job. No other way

its just fucked up to have to change your body because they are changing the name of the store, these are people who have worked there for several years, and why should they have to change themselves just because the store changes its name, its still owned by the same company. Its not that its a HUGE deal or anything its just the principle of the matter.

Why not just keep the facial hair, and see if anyone of higher authority says anything

if its in the dress code and even if the store management doesnt care, if the district manager comes to the store and sees it, not only will those people be told either shave it or leave, but the managers will be told, if they dont shave it then you get to leave

If I owned a grocery store business I'd want my employees clean-shaven and not lookin like a bunch of dirty bums.

Same here. I'd just go by the rules or you're probably going to not be there very long. There's no way around those kind of rules really. You could try a petition but I doubt that would work.

1. Go against the rules, see if they're enforced.
2. Adhere to the rules (grumbling)
3. Find alternate employment.
4. Combination of all of the above.
Working in an auto parts store back in the 80's, boss said he had to cut his hair since it was too long. He did. Got 2" taken off. Hair still below shoulders. Boss fired. He quit first. True story.

get your friends to start screaming that descrimination shit and how they can sue the store and all that bull shit, once management thinks laywers could be getting involved they will drop it pretty quick. Most places could afford a lawsuit let alone all the bad press that comes with it, and if they fire you for it you have even more grounds to sue or press charges against the company. :) It worked for me, they never used to give me my breaks so i called OHAS told them that I wasnt getting my breaks and they ended up coming in and doing a full audit of the store and they shut the place down until they brought it back up to code. I quite right after the audit was finished. The store called me offering me job back with a 20% raise :lol2:

Another option other then religious - is any for medical reasons? There's a clause (not often used) I heard of in the military for medical reasons.
Best thing is really to shave. Most guys look so much better clean shaven anyways. ;)
