Here is my problem. If my 94 taurus (3.8L, AXOD-E, 198km's) is cold, the car will crank and crank (like 5-8 seconds), it seems like the engine catches, but doesnt. but if i try it once more after that, it catches with out no hesitation. Plugs, wires, filter(fuel) have all been changed. the pump was checked and its A-OK. If anyone has any suggestions as to what the problem is, please give me a reply.

Try the fuel pressure regulator. I had the same problem with my last car, a Ranger. This starting problem happens because the fuel line cannot hold the pressure after you turn off the car. the system has one valve in the pump and the other is the regulator. If there's no leaking, one of these two is usually the reason. As you said you tested the pump, I am almost sure it is the regulator. It can be easily tested with a manometer.
I hope I've helped.
Good luck!
