Bearing or halfshaft going bad???

How can I tell what is going bad on my 97 bravada. It makes a whirring noise that increases with vehicle speed and gets louder if I make a left turn and quieter when I make a right one. There is no hitchiness when I turn sharply and the noise is very even (sounds like a bearing to me).
Any help with testing/diagnosing procedures is appriciated.
Thanks.

Please don't laugh...rotate your tires or check the air pressure.

replaced bearing/hub assembly on right side -- fixed problem.
And Chris -- dont you think I would have checked the tire pressure first, after all I do have enough tech knowlege to change the transmission out in this vehicle....
just kidding thanks for the help.

My Bravada has the same problem. Is this a dealer fix or are you able to just do the hub with out dismantling the transfer case.

Ken P The hub is the part the wheel bolts on, you don't have to do anything to the transfer case. I did mine myself. If you have moderate mechanical ability you can do it yourself and save a lot of money. It will take the better part of an afternoon. And isn't very complicated.

Thanks
I took it apart one night and took the parts to the store the next night and got a new one. They tried to jack the price over night by $12, but let me have it for what they quoted me the night before $158. It was not a hard job to do, just awkward getting the hub bolts out. It made a world of difference in the cabin noise. It sounded like it had big mud tires on it before. Thanks again

Just so you know if you have to do it again. They are about $140 at AutoZone and Advance Auto.
