I went to start my Burb and I think my fuel pump is bad. I can't here it come on. Is ther any way to find out if that is it? Do you think I can change myself or should I have a shop do it? How much do you think it may cost?

No sound from the pump? 99% sure it's dead and it's in the tank with the fuel sending unit all in one. Not cheap at all for the part and the fuel tank needs to be dropped down. Access to the pump is on top of the tank. It's not hard to do unless your tank is full. I know because had the same experience on my 99 Sub last winter. Also if you haven't replaced your fuel filter, do so at the same time. Very easy since it's located underneath on the frame rails in back. Good luck and keep me posted if you can.

Try replacing the fuel pump relay first, that could just as easilly be the problem as the pump. Also keep in mind the oil pressure switch works in this system, any of the three could hose the loop. If it was the oil pressure switch you should have been noticing some very strange oil pressure readings for a while. If you havn't I wouldn't worry about it unless you replaced it as a last resort. But start with relay.

Then if the pump still doesn't start, you'll have to drop the tank and replace. Make sure you use something that won't spark when removing and installing the locking ring on the top of the tank. You'll need a buddy or a tranny jack etc. to help you lower it onto the groud gracefully and lift back up for install.

I am not a paid mechanic and I have replaced 3 fule pumps like this. It is pretty straight forward, I would not pay someone to do this, it's just throwing money away.

If in doubt, but the Haynes manual and read it over first. If you're mechanically inclined this should give you enough confidence to takle the job....
