i am rolling in my beater 92 sl2 saturn at the moment(hand me down with 330,000 miiles on it) and my friend in cali has a civic ex with a b18 swap motor and i was sitting here thinking if a 3000 gt vr4 was to race a fatory b18 which would win would you have to swap the vr4 motor to something bigger? or would it be able to take it by itself cause i know the vr4 are all wheel drive twin turbo and soon i hoope to get a vr4 my dream car
thanks for all info given

what are you on drugs dude? too much lsd? crack? heroin? what is it? what would make you even compare those two? forget the twin-turbo, the SL would take the b18b with ease, at least by 3-4 car lengths in the 1/4. I hope you're on drugs asking something like that, cuz you better not be that ignorant lol.

oh yeah, and if you wanna doubt me...i had a b18 integra (150 HP, intake/exhaust) when i got my SL 3000GT (222 HP stock) and I raced them...and it was 3S by far. Now you add twin-turbos and the b18 wouldn't be visible in the rear view mirror of the 3S. And don't forget civic weighs more than integra so dont go there. :) i know i'm being a little rude and i apologize but damn man, get off the drugs. :p

Technical...no need for hostility, he didn't know, so he asked. That is the point of the forum. You wouldn't want that kind of response to a question you asked.

Domestic...as to your original question, the 2 cars aren't even in the same league. The vr4 is a sports car, the civic is an economy coupe...the civic would get murdered.

my friends BPU VR-4, raced a turbocharged honda with a b-18 swap, he put like 10 cars on him by the end of the 1/4 mile. They're not in the same league.

and, uhmm, you dont do engine swaps on vr-4s. A few people have swapped in a montero block for those who want to go extreme. People do turbo swaps, a.k.a turbos with bigger compressor wheels.

i've seen those things in the 12's as well as bpu vr4's so it really depends on how the honda is setup

ok well i did not know that much about the vr4s but i was wondering cause it sounds like it is an over kill but like doing 60 or 70 on a roll then launching could it still take it off the start or what i have not seen his car yet but from what he told me he got the motor from an impound lot or something like that so it is hella moded and he told me he added a carbon fiber body so it is alot lighter then that but i dont know so i was just asking for input would you think honda drivers would call it different
no i am not on drugs lol
but thanks for the input

and what did you mean about the "bpu vr4"is it like trackonly model or the vr4 with a factory performance package on it ¿?¿?¿?

Ahh rules number 1 and 2 :) But I never get to flame, what the H man. hehe

From any roll the VR4 would take the civ, unless the civ is turboed and nitro'ed..and even then it has little chance against a stock VR4.

wut about drive train loss and i heard the vr4 arent that strong at high end torque would that matter

and what is this bpu vr4?¿?¿?

screw high-end torque, we dont need vtec cause horsepower takes over top end. The AWD does tend to kill the top end a little bit, but you'd still be surprised.

BPU is basic performance upgrades. Basically he threw on a $20 intake, an $18 manual boost controller, and gutted his precats for free, and is running 12's in the quarter mile.

wow, YoungVr4, Igovert500, you guys should go and see Nissan Skyline Moderators, they would have banned his account for asking something like that lol ( they are asses dreaming of a car they can't afford, so they get angry fast )

A carbon fiber body? .........this is starting to sound like BS to me. And I am with Technical_Automan on this one. this guys question might be legit if your a newbie but the fact that he mentioned a civic and compared it like that to a VR-4.......aw god that is exactly why these kids get picked on! why dont you race him with your SL and find out just how fast that econobox is? oh and yeah we could swap out a vr-4 motor for something faster, we swap them for H22A's, we do it all the time and add 1000 shot of NOS too. wicked fast!

lol i saw a civic here with a carbon fiber "body". It was beyond ugly, it had like lamborghini green paint on the back, yellow mirrors and door handles, then the front bumper, hood and fenders, and gas cap were all black carbon fiber. Oh yeah and a carbon fiber wing. lol I was just like wtf? don't you people look at your cars? how can you not know that's the ugliest car on the street.

well let me speak on something. do not underestimate a civic, especially a turboed one. delsol turbo charged ran a 12.4, turbocharged sentra ran a 12.6 at the same strip a supra ran a 13.7 and nsx ran a 13.4 and a skyline ran a 12.8. these honda's were not using nitrous.

personally the story almost sounds like bs to me, carbon fiber body and what not, but its possible. if thi is the case a turbocharged civic(depending on what motor and turbo) will give our bpu vr4 a run for there money.

and speak about drivetrain loss, our gears are setup for amazing top speeds with 5 speeds 3rd gear redlinging at 120+mph and 6 speeds 3rd at 115. which is why i have raced rwd muslce and have been victorious from a roll. drivetrain loss is not much at all.

Its just like you say Young, "anything can be made fast" . 10 second metro. I'd still wouldnt drive it and I got nothing against civics just civic drivers, j/k but a c-f body sounds beyond too much, especially for a street car

well turbo wise he said he wasthinking of getting a bolt on one from g ready and i have no talked to him in a while so i dont know what he has done to it yet or lately.so yea i am a noob but i heard that the b 18 was the biggest v tec motor so i was thinking hmmm maybe ha has some quick a$$ stuff under the hood but i will get bak to you guys once i get out there. but i cant run on him with my saturn cause now i am in northern ohio so i am takeing a plane out there lol

A del sol running 12's I could have respect for...the Sentra definitely not...i'd rather have a 15 second 3000GT than a 12 second Sentra (which is my situation right now). I used to be a rice burner I have some respect for them, but when 12's are the feasible limit I started looking to the twin-turbo categories where 9's seem to be the feasible limit, and that's juuust fast enough for me whenever I get to it.

a 12 second honda is still just a honda

youngvr4
11-23-2004, 01:53 AM
i agree, i'm just saying don't think that a turboed honda wont blow you away. and i,ve seen them alot faster then 12,s
with my own two eyes the fastes i've seen was 10.8 in a
2 door civic

don't think 12's is were it ends

Technical_Automan

Was that 10 second Civic street legal though and look good (not that a Civic ever does, but not look like a drag car)? I don't mind Honda as a company, they've got the S2000, NSX, and I like the newer Preludes...I like anything that I don't see everyday, and I hate anything that every kid and their mother puts work into as my sig states.
