flywheel question

How much of a difference does a lightweight flywheel really make? Is it noticable enough to justify investing 200 dollars in one? I need a new clutch right now and I figured I could just get a new flywheel too. What do you guys think?

it helps the engine rev higher so with a honda engine it'll help.

it has nothing to do with how high an engine can rev. that is determined by the engine's ability itself. in order to understand a lightweight flywheel, u have to understand the purpose of a flywheel overall. a flywheel is a recipricating mass. it is used to keep the engine turning, to overcome the engine's tendency to want to stop. it also helps dampen out vibrations, but not as much as a vibration dampener does. so back to the flywheel being a recipricating mass, mass is another word for inertia. inertia is the tendency for an object to keep doing wut it's doing. so when the flywheel is spinning, it wants to keep spinning. however, when it's spinning slowly, it wants to keep spinning slowly, and is takes a lot of power to get it moving faster. some oem flywheels take as much as 40hp to speed up. now a lightweight flywheel has less mass, and therefore is easier to speed up and slow down. some aftermarket flywheels reduce the hp needed to speed them up by as much as 38%. i believe it is very reasonable to see a 10-15 hp gain out of a lightweight flywheel on a honda. depends on wut weight u use.
i hope that answered everybody's querries.

Ok, good, I'm going to get the 8lb flywheel/clutch combo for my LS.

Its accually a rotating mass, recipricating would mean it was going back and forth, but your information is top notch.
