This morning I recieved a phone call from my mother in law, I knew something was wrong just the way she acted. She told me that her nephew, my wife's cousin, had fallen and was hurt in the woods on a scout camp out, he was three miles from the nearest road and they were having trouble getting to him, but she didn't know exactly what was wrong. As we ended the converstion she did say that they had a helicopter enroute to assist them. I asked which one, hoping she would say "the sherriff's dept or park dept"...no... it was lifeline air evac. Now being on the fire & rescue, this assured me that Justin was hurt fairly seriously. So i waited by the phone and cancelled all our plans for the day.

Twenty minutes later I received another phone call, he had died.

The crew that he went camping with (he was 18) were boy scouts aging from 10 - 17. He had stayed up all the night before and that day he had gave the morning prayer and blessing upon the trip home and as the others were breaking camp he went up a hill and sat on a rock and was reading. Now apparently he fell asleep, as he had not slept the night before. When he did he fell off the rock and down a forty foot cliff. He had massive brain injuries and internal injuries. The boys that were there and one of the councilors did CPR on Justin for 2 hours before paramedics arrived. He was dead at the scene.

What I am asking is not so much prayers for my but for his mother and father Andrea and Jim Cockerham. Justin was like a brother to me, as I lost my only brother when i was sixteen, we were pretty close and like to spend time together. Sorry I am rambling, but I guess I just need to talk. Thanks to everyone, and may God Bless you all.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. It is always hard to let go of someone close to us. I am sure you and the rest of his family and friends will not forget the joys and pleasures you've shared.

Eventhough this is a forum for chevy trucks, we are still a community of friends and many ways family. If there is anything else I can do to help, please ask.

Sorry, for you loss. You never know how much you really miss somebody until they are gone; and by then it's too late. Sorry if it's too cliche but, it's very too the point.

My thoughts and wishes are with your loved ones.

Justin was an Eagle Scout, we had not yet done the court of honor thing...we are doing it at his funeral services. He and I were supposed to build an LT1 for my pickup, he got the block and heads for me, he worked at Jasper Engines. He was 18. I pretty much scrapped that idea, I don't think it would be the same to build that engine without him. Thanks to all of you for your condolences.
