once again my 1997 jeep wrangler has fallen apart... the other morning it was raining and i was going about 45 and had to hit the brakes hard of course they locked up and i switched lanes and stopped saftely. Later that night I was driving it agian and pulled up to an interesection an put the brakes on early b/c I knew it was a slippery interestion. I was going 30 mph andput the brakes on and it pulled to the left hard and i fianly stoped in the middle of the intersection after one tire locked up. Today I took the tire off and the ROTOR has snapped. The part the brake pads touch has completely broke off. Is this common? I have never heard anyone even talk about this happening.

Only time I've seenthe rotor ring break away from the hat is when there is a seized rotor and one pad has worn through the wear surface.
If someone has cut the rotors into the corner when turning them, that would have set up a stress point for a break to occure.
Could have been a defective rotor too.

I assume that you have composite rotors and not the solid one piece rotors.I have seen this happen quite a few times.there is actually a recall on some of them in what they consider "salt belt" states.but I don't think it applies to 97 tj.actually there were 2 seperate rotor recalls on jeeps for that issue,i believe the numbers were 747 and 879
