gas pedal

there is a lot of of play in my gas pedal, it starts half way to the floor. When held in the normal position (it won't stay on its own) there is about 2 inches of throttle cable sticking past. Is this a cheap easy fix that i can perform myself.

Did someone replace the cable with the wrong one? A cable isn't going to stretch 2". Check someone else's pedal height to see if it's different from yours. A throttle cable isn't hard to replace.
