Manual Escort Engine\Transmission Problems

Hey,
I have a 93 escort with a manual trans. When i first baught it it ran great (aprox 160k mi) now its been stalling in high gear when you give it gas. it will do fine in 1st..2nd..but when you throw it in 3rd or 4th and hit the gas too much (exp. when merging!) the acceleration will cut out, the gas pedal will go dead, you can shift back to neutral and rev it, but you have to turn off then on again to get gas back, and even then you need to go real easy to not get the gas cut off again. what could be causing this? (note i just installed all new bosch plat. plugs and cables)
