I just saw what happened on ESPN and I laughed my ass off! When Ron Artest was lying on the table and had a cup of beer thrown on him by a fan, I laughed. When Ron Artest got up and charged the fan, I laughed. When I saw the look on the fans face as Ron Artest charged him, I pee'd myself. Hilarious!
For all those that are saying the NBA is full of over paid pussies, I completely disagree. ESPN put in perspective for me. Say your Ron Artest playing a NBA game. Your emotions are high and your adrenaline is pumping. You have just been knocked in that face by the opposing team and you, instead of fighting on court, sit on sidelines to cool down. Then some lil bitch throws his beer at you! What do you do? Now, if I put myself in his shoes I think I would have done the same thing. I can't say I agree with what Artest did, but I understand.

Maybe you're watchin Rugby? Cause i'm pretty sure play stops every down?
I love NFL football... but it doesnt have non-stop action, BASKETBALL is a continuous action sport. You dont stop to call plays, you just have non-stop play.
Baseball is the most boring sport on the face of the earth besides maybe curling... dont hate on NBA basketball

I agree I like baseball too. However, american football is hardly non stop action. So many time outs, out of bounds, penalities left and right, etc. College football is cool, NFL is booooring.

its just stupid when people call pro athletes "overpaid pussies". I play baseball and basketball so i obviously wouldnt "hate" on them.
Baseball is fun to watch depending who is playing. Same with basketball during the regular season. Football on the other hand i could watch pretty much any teams play and not really care.

Personally I thought there was very little funny about that whole scene. I saw it live and didn't laugh at all. It was only after watching the slow motion replay of the expression on the guy Artest tackled first change from a stupid mocking laugh to an "Oh shit, I'm about to get my ass kicked" face. I chuckled a bit then, but besides that I thought it was completely unfunny all around.
I wonder if Artest really knew that was the guy who tossed the beer at him, or if he just lashed out at the guy who seemed to be laughing and gesturing the most. The guy still had a drink in his hand after all.
I'm not sure how the line should be drawn between throwing a beer and actually physically punching someone. If you throw a beer in a plastic cup, you're just trying to make them look stupid, make your disgust known, and maybe get them wet in the process. But when you punch someone, you're trying to hurt them, and all the Pacers players crossed that line before the fans did. Granted once it turned into the full on brawl the fans threw plenty of sucker punches too, but it was the players that elevated it to that level.
On the whole I think all the players got what they deserved. Artest is a nut job and apparently is more concerned about promoting is hip hop career than playing ball. I really think that getting a beer thrown at you is no reason to run into the stands and start something like that. When you're a professional athlete surrounded by thousands of people who hate you, I think you just have to be smarter than that adrenaline or not.
Hopefully the fans that were involved are getting the book thrown at them too. All those guys who went out on the floor certainly deserved whatever physical harm they got. O'Neal totally belted that one guy... Unfortunately there can't really be anything really done for all the other idiots that jumped into the mass hysteria, poured their drinks out on the players as they went back to the locker room and threw stuff out on the floor. They are just morons, and will have to live with that. Perhaps that's punishment enough...

I agree. Artest is an idiot. A drink in the face is far from the same as a fist to the face. I find the suspension fair and just for his actions. He plays for the Pacers anyways, they weren't going to make the playoffs anyhow. They suck.

as for the Pacers sucking... are you serious? They're one of the best teams in the east, they were #1 in the eastern conference. Jermaine O'neal is one of the best players in the NBA and Ron Artest is one of the best defenders in the NBA

First of all I would have never ran into the stands in the first place. Secondly. It's liquid, its not gonna hurt. He deserved he was attacking somebody so somebody threw drink in his face. No fan deserved to get hit or attacked. Athletes like those who fought with the fans need to step down off their high horse. Quit taking their roids and become sensible that its just a fucking game. Yes you're going to get pissed at certain things, but all athletes need to have some sort of self control. I think it should be something required by all sports.
Unless blatently attacked by a fan, no athelete should find the need to throw a punch. It just shows a lack of class. After seeing Artests' actions he's in the lowest of the low in terms of class.

step down off their high horse?! It has NOTHING to do with him being an athlete or that its just a game, its about disrespect. I dont even think you saw the video cause Artest wasnt attacking anybody when the drink was thrown. He was laying on the table relaxing when some stupid fuck throws a full beer at his face.
If somebody throws a full beer at my face i dont give a fuck who they are, they will get knocked.... now back to the original question, what would YOU do if somebody threw a full beer in your face. Just stand there and do nothing about it? Cause i'd feel my blood boiling at that point

Granted the fan should have never thrown anything. Fans need to have just as much control over their actions as the players do. I dont know what video you watched, but I saw Artest run into the stands start hitting a fan with other fans trying to hold him back, and then get beer thrown on him and then try and go after the other guy once he was back on the court. In no way shape or form should any athlete go into the stands, nor should any fan go onto the court or field. Provoked or not.
Athletes have to realize they have thousands of kids who watch them, mimic them, and look up to them in many ways. It shows bad judgement of character when players or fans cross that line.
To answer your question about beer being thrown in my face. I can't give an honest answer b/c it would depend on the situation and my state of mind at the time. I'm not a violent person and its not in my DNA to get bent out shape very often. I'm an easy going guy. When I do I can get very angry and start throwing fists i'm already usually in a bad mood and the smallest thing can set me off. But if I were an athlete I would set precedent and turn the other cheek. Players really need to check their egos at the door and swallow their pride. Learn to make good judgements instead of bad ones.
Now Artest has the next 7 months to think about his actions and hopefully get some anger management. Hopefully the others will do that same.

Detroit fans got what they deserved. Remember that thread a while back about some 18 year old beating a 16 year old because he mooned him and his mother while the kid was on the bus? Same sort of thing here...it's disrespect, all his friends and family is watching him being disrespected in front of millions, he had the right to be mad. The way he handled it was unprefessional but that's beside the point.
Being suspended for the entire season is just gay. And about Artest asking a month off for promoting his rap album was a sham, go research the real reason beind it (hint: it has something to do with his knee).
Just for those who want to know, nobody has been charged yet but they are still looking for the dumbass fan who threw a chair, that fucker can face up to 4 years.

I don't think his unprofessional actions are beside the point at all. Yes of course he had a right to be mad, but when you are a professional you have more than just your own dignity in the eyes of your friends to keep in mind. Now his whole team is suffering and there are a bunch of disillusioned fans out there that see this as a blemish on the face of the entire game, not just one player.
When Artest ran into the crowd swinging, he wasn't thinking about the inevitable end result of what he was doing, only that there was no way he was going to take such a cheap shot from someone so lowly as the common fan.
People can ask "What would you do if someone threw a beer in your face?", and it seems like lots of people think they'd knock the guy out. If you were two random people in a bar that might be the case. But imagine if you were at work, doing your job, and someone you work with or a customer did the something like that to you. Would you flip out and start throwing punches? Not if you wanted to keep your job you wouldn't.
Ron Artest was at work, doing his job, representing not only himself but his Team, the NBA, and the image of the game as a whole. When he chose to disregard all this and make it personal matter, he made his own fate.

I'm not trying to make an arugment about this. I still say he should have never ran into the stands. I mean the first kid he wen after looked like he was 13.

Not if you wanted to keep your job you wouldn't.
still would of done it....
*imagines another employee throwing big gulp at my head*
yep.... and the boss would know i didnt start it atleast
i dont care what anyone else would do, but i cant turn the other cheek if somebody disrespects me like that. I dont care what happens aslong as i stand up for myself

PROFESSIONAL sports is becoming nothing more than overpaid school yard players who are only good at playing around.......Just take the Kobe Bryant case.................and now this. Then, to top it off, someone had to ask Charles Barkley for his comments.

I personally think its all about the money. If I were getting paid the kind of amounts that these players are making, I personally would have NO PROBLEM taking a beer in the face from a fan and walking away, but thats just me and Ron Artest is a hot-headed nutjob. I personally think the fan was taking up for Ben Wallace. Ron artest made a "hard" foul with the game totally out of reach then got pushed in the face for it. After that he went to the announcer's table and started doing sit-ups in an almost mocking way. I personally think he deserves every bit of the suspension he recieved. Even though he got the beverage thrown at him , HE is the one that took it to the stands and encited the all out brawl that came afterwards. If the season long ban holds up for Artest he stands to lose in the neighborhood of 6.5 million dollars and for all the suspensions I believe its around 10 million dollars.. thats one VERY expensive beer.

But like I said, if you wanted to keep the job you wouldn't do it. Especially if it was a customer, as in the player/fan situation. At some point all that macho standing up for yourself crap has to take a back seat to responsibility and better judgement.
Personally, I'd feel a lot better laughing and wiping a slurpee off my head behind the counter as the boss kicked the guy who threw it at me out on his ass than I would knowing I stood up to that chump but got myself fired in the process.

Throwing anything at someone and hitting them is called assult. You can have someone arrested for it. But a bar and a basketball court are two different settings. No good could have come from rushing a fan in the stands.
Artest was wayyyy outta line. At first I was on his side but then after watching the whole thing over and over again I realize that Artest is a lil bitch. First he fouls the hell outta the one player (forget his name) and backs down when he is challenged to a fight (I hear Artest is constantly starting trouble and thinking he is somekind of badass). So instead of taking up the fight with someone bigger than he is, he beats the shit outta some lil skinny white guy, who was wearing glasses! Chances are the guy wasn't even the one who threw the drink. Artest is a bitch and should be expelled from the NBA.

its good to see people sticking up for fans that get out of line, but when someone puts them in their place the player is at fault. first off fans should NEVER be on court or throwing shit onto the court(except hockey for the hat trick). Fans belong in the seats and players belong on the court.
Artest did act irrational but i dont agree with the full season suspension.

Ben Wallace.
And as it turns out, the guy Artest went after wasn't the dude who threw the beer. They've got tape footage of the guy who did it, and it wasn't the guy who got tackled first. There was another guy sitting a few seats away who threw it at him. You might remember a bald guy with a white hat that gets knocked off trying to pull Artest off the guy and throwing pussy little hooks at him from behind, well, that was him. Apparently he has a criminal record for aggravated assault and isn't even supposed to be drinking any form of alcohol as a term of his probation for several DUI's. That was all on Sports Center a little while ago...

Obviously he was going after who he thought was the culprit. And that's why Detroit is stepping up it's security, if there were less convicts in the stands, and the fans stopped thinking that they can do whatever they want...then maybe we would have less problems. Again this sin't me putting all blame on the fan, i'm just saying that Artest's supension was too much and I hope he wins the appeal.

I live in Indianapolis. I laughed at both teams. I laughed at Ben Wallace's dumb-ass first. Then Artest. I agree to a certain point with alot of what has been said. If someone blatantly disrespects you by throwing a beer in your face, what can you do?? But, on the other hand. if you make millions per year. I think I'd let it slide. I'd be pissed. But, I would have the satisfaction of knowing, that jerk-off would probably wake up tommorow with a hangover, and be late for his sh^&&* paying, no future having job. For as much money as they get paid, I think you could hold back your temper. I'm sure I could.
