Rod and Main bearings

Will aftermarket rod/main bearings fit on a 97 B20B block or will i have to special order them from honda or hondaautomotiveparts.com due to different crank that came with different B20B blocks? thanx

what i mean by that is that the OEM bearings come in different size. The crank has codes stamped on it and so does the block and you have to take the codes up to honda to order different size bearings that will fit on the rods and the crank, but i have found a local autoshop that can get standard size bearings. so i was wondering if those will fit fine, or should i just get oem bearings from honda?

ok if you have the code on the block and on the crank then go get those bearings from honda, or any other place but just make sure you get the right size. use plastigauge to confirm. i dont like using any other bearing other then honda.

im alittle confused on what you mean by standard, do you mean the shop has the bearings that match your block and crank number or does the shop have a standard size that they are gonna give you that might or might not fit.

they are all the manufactured to spec; OEM sizes. just buy bearings meant for the b20 and you wont have any problems. the b20b crank is actually the same as the LS blocks but i dont know if the bearings are interchangable.

you can buy bearings for the b16, ls, b29 whatevers. the most important thing is the correct size as in thickness of the bearing. std size bearing are good if your block/crank will take the std size.

it looks like none of you have rebuilt an engine before. you cant just buy std bearings if your block takes green bearings, etc because then std wont be the correct size and its either too tight or too loose, either way you will probably end up spinning the bearings and costing you alot more.

you can buy bearings for the b20 but you still need the size, which is thickness of the bearing

yup i just did a search on hondaswap and found something; the different colors are the sizes. btw i thought the ACL kits already have the correct sizes? some guy was selling some on honda-tech and he said they were specifically for ls or b20 blocks

BC = IDBT - ODC - (2 x BT)
BC = bearing clearance
IDBT = inside diameter of bearing tunnel (housing bore)
ODC = outside diameter of crank journal

if memory serves me correctly, acls come in 2 different sizes. usually with a stock block and same stock crank the acls will work but you still need to measure clearance with plasitgauge.

what most people do is they just one 1 set of bearings, somewhere in the middle and just put it on and plastigauge it and see how off it is. so then right there they know how much smaller or bigger they need, and they just do that for ever journal. but you do need a different one of the mains and rods

my friends dad whos a master technician helped me with the stamps on the block and the crank, so now i finally know which rod/main bearings to get. thanx for the help all my amigos :)
