I have a 97 I30, my alternator died, and I need to take it to get rebuilt. I have replaced alternators on other cars, so I know what im doing, but I can figure out how to get the belt loose. Theres a big nut on top of the idler pulley, which i assume is a tensioner. I cant get the pulley to move. What do I need to do to get the belt off?
thanks
thanks

There is a nut in the center of the pulley that you need to loosen first, then turn the top "nut" to pull the pulley upwards to loosen the belt.
The longer bolt behind the alternator is a HUGE pain to get out and a bigger pain to get back in!. I had just replaced it on my old maxima on boxing day. use some WD-40 on the tensioner adjusting bolt first so you don't break it like i did!!

Thanks. I finally figured out how the tensioner works. I got the alternator out, but it took alot of work. I had to unbolt the AC compressor to get that long bolt out, and I had to take the radiator cooling fans off to get the alternator out, it was a pain, but I got it.
