Well... From what my pop's taught me, you shouldn't have the overdrive unless ur going over 30 MPH, but it could be different for every car, that's the best help I can give ya :)

your overdrive is shot, you need to get your end clutch replaced. Parts from the dealership will probably cost you around $175, or you can buy the alto end clutch which is a much better and stronger end clutch for around $75 at importperformancetransmissions.com

as far as labor, labor is 2 hours according to the books. So a dealership would charge you $150 labor since they charge $75 an hour. If you find another shop, it'll be around $50/hr so $100. All in all, if you get the alto end clutch and have a shop outside of the dealership to install it, your looking at roughly $175-$200.

Thanx guy. I'll look into that end clutch. A buddy of mine said it might be a sensor on the trans. Could that cause that to happen too?

drive your car with the overdrive off, and take it up to about 50 mph or so, then click the overdrive button so it'll shift into 4th gear. If your engine revs like in neutral, then its not a sensor, its your end clutch.

Typically shops will say stuff like that either because they don't know any better, or they want to make more money off of you, or because they wont warranty such jobs...same as replacing worn synchros...some shops wont do it.

they're lying to you, before i do that, i'd go ahead and pay the dealership the $350 parts and labor to fix it before spending 2 grand on a new transmission
