Most department stores have AOL discs for free, up by the registers or by the doors.

Fuck AOL! Why are people still using it? All you need is an internet connection and a internet browser. Tell me, why do people still use AOL?

Because for the 75% of people who use the internetfor less than an hour a day, AOL does offer alot.

I don't understand why people bash AOL. They often make comments like 'its for people who don't know how to use the internet!'. Yeah, thats the whole point of AOL, to be a simple and easy means of connecting to the internet and hooking up with people. Sure, AOL blows if you're a computer buff that wants to be able to download files at lightning speeds, or play games online. But for the millions who only use the internet for email, news, and chat, AOL is an excellent service. Lay off.

I have a friend who was paying $20/month for AOL Dial-Up. Why the hell would you ever do that if you can get 1.5MB Verizon DSL for $29? Go figure, he finally switched though.

I didn't mean to turn this into an AOL bashing/defending thread but I just can't stand AOL. I'm sure its great for those people out there who aren't computer savy. Although there was a time when I was one of those people. Those days are now long over. My parents were paying $20 a month for AOL dial up service and I just couldn't understand it. At the time I was using a free ISP and only paid for the telephone charges while they paid 20 bucks a month. As for games, AOL blows. They charge their customers an extra 5 bucks a month just so they can play online games (I know this from playin online games with people who have aol). But if your goal is check your email and chat, then I guess AOL is for you. Although, there are sooo many free chat programs out there and email accounts. AOL was needed in the late 90s when most of us knew jack shit about the internet but I think AOLs use is long over. Just my thoughts.
