Running on 2 cylinders ...

1992 Caravan 3.3L 120 000 miles. While riding through a parking lot doing about 35mph the van began to lose power and slowed to a halt. It was running rough on about 2 cylinders. I suspected the fuel pump and changed it. Still she runs on 2cyl's. Changed the wires and plugs, same thing. Checked the coil pack and all is firing. I thought the timing chain may be stretched because of the miles and changed it, same thing, changed the cam censor, same thing. Tomorrow I am checking the fuel filter and the catalytic converter. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You may want to try the crankshaft sensor in the bell housing. I don't know if you have a manual but the new sensor will come with what looks like thick paper on the end of it. Put the new sensor in so it is just touching the flywheel then tighten it. When the engine is turned over it will knock off the paper and you will have the correct gap between sensor and flywheel.

Thank you I was in fact last night looking in the manual and came across it and went into the garage to check it out. Found it by jacking up the car and crawling under the car by the drivers door. I am glad you told me how to install a new one because I don't recall seeing the procedure in the book. I had the trans replaced 4000 miles ago and wonder if they didn't put the old one in too close and it got ruined.
Thanks again

Same thing with me. Had my tranny worked on and later the engine started acting up. Found the crankshaft sensor was stuck all the way in and when I removed it, the end of the sensor was broken out.

Thank you Timd, I went after work yesterday and purchased a new crank sensor ($54) at our local Pep boys and will be installing it this morning. I will let you all know. :)

I have never changed the oxygen sensor, could this cause what I am having ? To test do I just disconnect it ?

Just replaced the "upstream" oxygen sensor, all it did was extinguish the "check engine" light. I don't think it effects the way the engine runs to any significant degree.

how can it run on two cylinders? You could hook up a timing light to each plug wire one at a time and see if the timing light flashes. or you can use a spark tester, is this how you arrived at running on two cylinders, or does it just run rough
