Would like some suggestions.

I talked my brother into buying an EF hatch a few months ago... we'd been looking every since... finally found a 91 DX hatch in mint condition (driven by a little old man for 11 years) and he bought it tonight... now since I'm the car expert in the family, he wants me to design and help build him a faster car (faster then my 98 Civic at least).
We're going with a B16a engine swap in a few weeks.
what I need help with is pricing, places in texas that could do the swap (cause I don't have a shop to work in anymore, nor even my own drive way)...
He had $6,000... spent $1,900 on the car... so that leaves a little over $4k left to spend on an engine and whatever else he decides to get right off...
Give me your thoughts people.

By the way... The car is tahitian green and both the front and rear bumpers are body color.... I didn't think that the DX's came in tahitain green(thought only the Si's did), let alone with the bumpers painted... yet it is a DX with the dual point fuel injection and no tach.

yeah, only the 91 dx's had body color bumpers I believe. I've seen the green ones around here. I priced my swap out to about 4300 or so, but I'm trying to make it easy on my cousin who is doing the swap. I'm picking up the shift linkage and axles to make it a little easier. Also I'm getting headers, ACT clutch, ECU upgrade, LSD tranny, and HCP mounts. You cut any one of those out and hopefully your in business (I'm paying 800 for labor which is included in the 4300). Good Luck, search for some good prices, its worth it.

If you're going B16A you'll need a brake upgrade, and you'll need an SiR (JDM) or 1.6i-VT (euro SiR) guage cluster. You'll also need a few extra wires (for VTEC etc)... and make sure you get the ECU - it's worth it!! I can't tell you much else because I'm no expert on engine swaps - just telling you a couple of things :D

Good choice on engine - why go half way?!? You'll have fun with that thing :D
Oh yeah, make sure it's a B16A1. It has a cable actuated clutch, which you need. B16A2 and on have hydrolic clutches.

do you really need the gauge cluster? I was thinking of maybe just putting in a tach since people have been having problems with the wiring of the jdm cluster. I'm beginning my research on the brakes too - any suggestions?

The guage cluster isn't essential - but trust me, it's worth it! I'd go for one - much nicer looking, more complete. It's worth the hassle if you can get once easily enough :)

No... all you need for the swap is the engine, transmission, axles and ecu... and your choice of mount kits... which we're going with HAsport's kit.
And I know I've seen much cheaper then $4,300... hell Nippon Motors sells the engine, tranny, and ecu for 1,050.. and then pricing all the stuff myself I've found on the internet so far, I've come up to about 2,300... and then I was quoted 600 for installation by a shop in austin that's done this swap several times.
Now can anyone find me a better deal then that?
I know Vince got the complete SiR front end, but I know not from where or how much it cost him.
