Advice on which performance chip to buy.

I have a 1995 Blazer 4.3 auto "Z" code.
I would like some opinions on which computer chip people like and dislike.

I have been hearing good things about the Hypertech Power Programmer (Version 3). I do not have the resources to go pick one up to tinker with and find out for certain. Has anyone had any results, good or bad with altering the onboard computer's curves and programs with one of these on a '95 Blazer CPI 4.3 "W" VIN code? I am a little gun-shy when I tossed good money away on a "performance chip" on a previous vehicle. It was still a gutless wonder even though heavily modded. I am under the impression that they just dump more fuel per injection cycle than normal - but not so much as to totally quench your catalyst. This is indeed a good question, crazy4nitro. Does anyone out there at all have any experienced input, or is it all chicken bones and voodoo technology?

I have the programmer (III) for my 97 tbi 4.3L. It works great for me-a little more power, enhanced shifting, ect. You can also adjust the top speed, tranny shift points and shift firmness and will adjust for oversized tires and after market sift kits and gear ratio changes. They claim that it improves gas mileage and extends the life of the tranny. I have'nt noticed much difference on the fuel side, but it did improve the performance.

The only option you have is the jet or other performance chips.

they all do the same thing and you cannot use a programmer on a OBDI computer.

Hypertech Power Programmer III's are cheap on ebay. One warning though, I heard you have to buy the programmer for your specific year, and the previous owner of the unit has to return his car to stock before you can program your own.
